Having been in paranormal investigations and in metaphysics for over 20 years, I can say that ghosts do have the ability to harm the living.
Most earthbound ghosts fall into two categories: people who literally do not know they are dead, and people who were bad in life and are afraid of "the judgement" and being sent to "hell".
The bad ones typically will try their best to dirty up the aura and block the head chakras of the living... the physical body will experience nervous system and immune system dysfunction because of this "dirt"... commonly observed as bhronchitis, shingles, a tendency to get sick, and a lot of stress-related disorders. Some are a little more violent than that and will attack causing bruises and scratches. Some go for intermittent possession.
Either way, the "cure" is the same. You gotta talk the ghost into going into the Light.

There are many people that say ghosts cannot hurt you for various reasons. However I personally have been touched by entities and have also seen objects be manipulated/moved by entities. It seems to me that a ghost would be just as capable of directing a harmfull touch (like a hit or kick) toward you as they are a gentle touch. It also seems to me that if an entity can cause an object to fly across the room it would be just as easy to direct that object to hit someone if they wanted it to. I don't think there are any "cosmic rules" out there that prevent entities from doing this, it just depends on who the entity is, the entity is just an extension of who that person was in life, so if the entity was a cruel hurtfull person they may try to harm someone, but most people don't live their lives looking for people to harm and so most entities aren't just looking for someone to harm so you don't hear of it often.

There are evil spirits, but most of them are not, and you shouldn't be afraid unless you have a good reason to be so. I have seen a couple ghosts in my life, or spirts, and at the time it IS quite frightening, but they didn't do me any harm at the time. I have heard ghosts I haven't seen, Ive smelled their scent, and felt their presence, but Ive never in anyway have been harmed. I'm not saying there aren't bad entities out there, I'm just saying unless they really give you good reason to be scared that you may be harmed, don't over react. You may want to read up on the subject to better understand the phenomena.

I don't wish to discredit the people above who have answered that you cannot be harmed by a ghost, but it is my experience that you can...
I have lived in 3 "haunted houses" in my life and have had a fair bit of experience with the other side/s...
~~~Personal Experience~~~
When I moved into the Cottage I now occupy in Nov'05, I was well aware of a presence, but I thought nothing of it, as I was of the attitude, here we go again...
To cut a very long story short, I had 2 ghosts, both of children, and both male...
What was occurring inside my house was an extreme temperature change, usually at night after I had showered and was ready for a DVD..
I am talking about sub-zero temperature inside my house, but the temperature gauge inside was reading 25C....
One of the entities was changing my body temperature, to a degree that I was watching a DVD dressed in full winter attire(thermals) etc, with 2-3 blankets over me, my 2 kero heaters going and I was still freezing...
This same phenomena occured no less than 12 times...
As you can imagine it is not healthy to have all this winter clothing on plus heaters and blankets, when I should be walking around in a pair of shorts and a singlet...
So I will say that if I was older and not as healthy as I was this sort of behaviour from the entity would have eventually killed me...
I contacted a mate who is a psychic-medium and we managed to send him to the light...
He appologised for the distress he caused me and said he was only playing....
Incidently, I still have one entity left, but he is no problem really, he just likes to hide things from time to time...
Blessed Be... )O(
It depends upon the ghosts. B/c there are good and bad ones right. For example when you play the ouija board and then you called a bad ghost longing for peace and you tend to disturb their silence then they can be harmful. Otherwise, they are not.
Yes, there have actually been documented cases of ghosts scratching and pinching people and in California, a team of investigators were examining a house and one of the crew was attacked by having a rope knotted around his neck and dragged up to a rafter in the attic. There have also been reports of poltergeist activity causing things like book cases falling and framed pictures flying out and hitting people.
No, ghosts are only what we let them be. A combination of imagination and restless souls can no more harm you than a sock. If you are having ghost problems I would recommend talking to your local priest or pastor though because it is most likely a psychological thing and they are very good at helping. Best of Luck-Scarlet
Yes and no. The can't always, some are not strong enough, some are strong enough to touch you, and if they get strong enough, they can touch you with force behind it, but usually only bad or evil spirits get that strong, it you feel threatened by the presence, then it may be able to hurt you but sometimes they don't want to.
Although experts say no, I say they can. I had an experience 2yrs ago in November. I was pushed and shove. I even had one entity try to enter my body,I wouldn't let him.
Only indirectly, such as if someone old sees one and then has a heart attack. Poltergeists can, however, but they're not the same thing.
