The best laptop is the one that you SEE from a retailer that gladly accepts returns if you change your mind. Staples, Costco and Wal-Mart are among the customer friendly retailers. But ASK about their return policy.
Pick the laptop by weight and size. You see, if you like BIG, then you get HEAVY... If you go for LIGHT, then you get SMALL. So LOOK and PICK what fits YOU.
I prefer Toshiba. Good tech support, great price, very durable and reliable. Sold that the stores that I mentioned. Watch for deals in the next two weeks.
My second choice is HP... but take a look at Compaq and Acer. I would avoid Dell, Sony and Lenovo since these have a poor service reputation, and are assembled poorly.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

permit me preface by using affirming that i'm an authorized Dell and HP Reseller. I actual have no longer something against Macs in any respect. actually, i'm rather inspired by using the present Macbooks. in case you prefer the Microsoft working device, the Dell Vostro laptop has been my modern %. for many suitable value for lowend laptops. in my opinion, you're comparing apples to oranges. they do no longer evaluate to one yet another as they the two have diverse reward. My professional opinion: Macbooks - sturdy (equipped on Unix platform), sturdy classes, common, extra inflexible standards, extra sensible video modifying potential, skill to run XP rather much (using utility). Dell Vostro - Comes with XP or Vista, versatile with utility, a lot of hardware innovations, low-value. i prefer to advise you talk on your instructors first and ask what they are going to be using. finally, you will discover much less problems in case you whichever platform they are using.

You will probably hear all kinds of arguments about Mac vs PC. Which operating system is better? That depends on what you are doing and what you are accustomed to--which is exactly why Macs are better. You can run Windows on a Mac (using software called Parallels or Boot Camp, it's easy). You cannot run the Mac OS on a Windows machine (unless you have serious computer skills and are willing to spend a lot of time on it). No brainer.

macintosh computers are the best. don't trust the windows crap, it gets viruses and crashes often. you spend almost more dollars in repair then you do for the actual PC.
