If she had sent the invitation...would you be posting here that you thought she was fishing for gifts?

No it's not rude to invite someone that lives out of state. Instead, it is considerate. And I think she was being very thoughtful as a friend to not make you feel obligated to send a gift. I'm sure when the baby is born she will send an birth announcement. Then it will be the appropriate time to send a gift. Please don't take this so personal. Sounds like you have a good and thoughtful friend. It would be a shame if you allow this to come between you.

I wouldn't have been rude for her to invite you. But, obviously, you're not going to travel from Minnesota to Texas for a shower. Sending you an invitation would have seemed too much like begging for a gift. I believe she acted correctly and you have over reacted. You can still send a gift if you'd like.

That happened to me once, too between me and a friend up north. You know what I did. I sent a gift anyway. And, the first chance I got, I went to see that baby. And, I bought my friend a local spa treatment.

Then, I went home back to Texas and well, never saw her again. Not because I don't want to, but I am just living a different life than her. I hope she enjoyed the spa gift.

I think your feelings are hurt, you feel left out. I'm sure she could have sent an invation at least giving you the option of sending a gift why not wouldn't you take a gift if you lived close enough to go to the shower. It's not rude noo not if your friends . I gave my daughter in law a baby shower over the internet. we MYself and family ours and hers. none of us could afford to go . so we set up web cams before the shower we sent all the gifts so she could open them the day of the shower we played games and had cake while a few friends she has made in montana did the same their . your friend is in the wrong

Hopefully she was being honest with you, and really does consider it rude to invite someone from out of state. If you trust her, take what she says at face value. It sounds like she was trying to save you some money, and although it would have been nice to receive an invitation (even if you had to refuse it) she gave you her reasons.

Your friend's reaction sounds very innocent. I believe she in her mind; took in consideration the distance and perhaps financial stands. It is imperative that your friendship not end or suffer at a time of celebration.

If you really want to be included; go out and buy a gift and send it to your friend. It will let her know you still love and cherish the friendship. In addition; it allows you to participate in the overall celebration; and shows that you care.

It's just a baby shower. Sounds like she had good intentions.
Send a gift after the baby is born or go see it.

I understand both points, and they both are valid so I dont think you should be that mad at her.
