When I drive my 58 Chevy Apache, it makes a grinding noise when i turn the steering wheel hard to the left. It used to do it a bit when I turned it to the right, but I greased it with some Schaeffer's grease and it stopped it grinding when I turned it to the right. Why is it still grinding when I turn it to the left? What can I do to solve that problem?

This sounds more like a wheel bearing, maybe?

If you have the classic GM powerstering pump you can take it apart and clean it out. Since there are no fluid filters on these pumps the metal residue collects in the bottom of the impeller cavity and the "fins" glide over this residue and rob you of hydraulic pressure and of course there's always noise and vibration involved. They are easy to disassemble and put back together. There's one big ring shaped spring that holds the main concave port in place that can be a little tricky.

You'll wonder how it can look so clean with no visable wear when you get inside. Unless one of the fins or some of the fins desintegrarted you just need to wipe out the interior and maybe use a tooth brush and brake parts cleaner to wsh it out and then put it back together and it should be "like new".

If the fins are in pieces then you'll need a new pump.

Good Luck!

Assuming it has power steering, check the fluid level, if not it could be a number of things like the seals have gone, tie rod ends have had it and the bushes may need replacing, take it to a frontend specialist.

You need new king pins in your front axle.
