We put down grubex last year and moth balls this year. So far they are just as sassy as ever and my yard is a mine field to mow.

Hi - I have tried many different options to get rid of moles, here is how successful they were for me:

A - Spring Traps. Cost ~$10 put over the tunnel and when they come back - wham. Not. Only got one this way.

B - Grub Killing. Kill the food, the moles go away. Great unless you have a big yard and the grub-ex is like $25/3000 sq ft. Ca-ching.

C - Bubble gum. Wrigleys that is - $1 a pack. Tear a little wrapper off so they can smell the gum. They eat it whole, including that metalic silver part which they can't digest and they die. My old neighbor swears by this. I'm still digging up gum (uneaten) in my veggie garden. No luck here.

D - Pitchfork - Free is you already have one. Stomp the tunnels one night and whichever ones pop up again the next day are active. Walk along with the pitchfork like some bad horror movie. You may get lucky. But then you see how cute they are and feel bad. I don't have that kind of time or patience.

E - Dr Someguys Mole Pellets $7 at Walmart. Put these poison pellets in the tunnels, the moles eat them and wallah, they die. This I had the most success with. I was actually mole free with this method for a whole year. Unfortunately my neighbors didn't get in on the act and they came back (the moles that is).

F - Mole Windmills - $15-$20. These are good for veggie gardens and small areas. The windmill sits on a copepr pipe and when it turns a vibration goes into the ground scaring the moles away. This also works well - send them all back to the &^@#$@ neighbors who did do the mold pellets.

G - Sonic Mole Chasers - $15 + 4 D batteries from Amazon. Yes - last year my Christmas wish list had sonic mole chasers on it. And yes, someone actually got them for me. These work great. A very humane way to move the problem to someone else.

I would go with the pellets to get rid of them and the chasers to keep them away.

Good Luck

Fall of 2016
I use cheap mouse traps, the metal bait tray kind not the plastic, baited with a smelly piece of lunch meat. I look for holes that are going deeper than just under the grass and place the trap at them and cover it with a bucket. I have not had much luck placing traps on the feeding tunnels. This year I have trapped 22 moles in an area about 40 by 100 feet and 48 the last 4 years. Right now I have traps at 7 holes and yesterday I caught 2. Two years ago I caught 4 at the same hole over 7 days. I ll bait a hole for atleast three days.

I have nearly an acre, and I have had the same mine field backyard as yours. It finally got to the point that I decided that their numbers must have increased to staggering proportions, and that something had to be done.
Don't mess around with any of these other ideas...truly they don't work, the moles will just move to another part of the yard and continue breeding.
There is mole killer at the handyman stores, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
It works! Do test the area as suggested and apply under the soil in currently used tunnels.
Killing them isn't the most humane thing to do, but it sounds like yours are out of control and breeding like mine were. Moles are just like rats really, blind white rats that live underground.
After three years of letting them have the run of my lawn, I finally decided that they had torn it up to serious destruction, and that it was time for them to go. Usually I don't kill animals, I enjoy the animals that come into my yard, but this was getting ridiculous.
The only thing i'm not sure of...I'm wondering if the mole killer is the same thing as rat and mice killer, just under a different name but more expensive. It sure looks exactly the same!

Getting rid of Garden Moles
The good news is that moles are not social animals, so you usually only need to get rid of one of the little suckers to end your troubles.

An Easy Mole Trap
First, scavenge your property and locate as many tunnels and holes as you can, then find out which tunnels the mole uses frequently by destroying part of the tunnel and waiting to see if the mole fixes it. If he does, then you know this is a tunnel he likes. You can use this to your advantage by setting a trap in this tunnel. You don’t need a trap to catch a mole though. Many times you will see him traveling right under the surface of the ground and you can catch him with two shovels, pitching one in the front and one behind. Once you have him, place him in a covered bucket or trash can and take him far away from your property.

Mole Molestation

There are other ways as well. You can use mousetraps to catch moles as they are about the same size as a large mouse. You can try mixing oil soap, castor oil and cayenne pepper together and then dilute it with warm water. Spray this mixture over and in (where possible) the mole’s underground highways. Flood his tunnel system using this solution and a water hose. The soap will cause the castor oil and cayenne pepper to stick to the mole’s skin which in turn will cause him to itch and burn. He will not want to hang around your property much longer.

Mole Repellents
You can also try using fox urine or placing human hair down in the holes. Both can work to repel a mole. Plain castor oil gives the moles an upset stomach which might encourage them to leave. You can also poison them with mole pellets that you drop down their tunnels. Getting an outside cat to roam around your property will probably just send the moles to someone else’s yard.

To prevent moles from damaging your garden place wire mesh in the dirt before you start planting. The roots of your plants can still go through the mesh, but the mole will not be able to destroy the plants by uprooting them. Of course, this is best done when you are first planting a garden and does not solve an existing mole problem.

Although moles can be destructive, there is something to be said for just letting them stay in your yard. They do work to aerate your soil and kill grubs that might harm your lawn and garden. They usually won’t stay very long in one place, so it might be worth just waiting it out until the mole runs out of food and moves on.

GOOD LUCK! HOPE I HELPED

CYPRESS MULCH around whatever you don't want them to eat! Works like a charm! I've got 10 varieties of Hostas in my yard, voles, moles have never eaten a one! Nobody believes me but it works.
Now, I did plant about 3 bags of tubers and bulbs in a couple of spots, only about 1 bag came up but that's generally normal.

Oh and one more thing, you do know that putting lime lines around your yard will help keep snakes out, it burns their bellies.

I chased them out of my yard by putting a big rock on the mound each time they came up until they were gone. Good Luck.

I heard dropping chewed juicy fruit gum into the holes works.
A friend was going to have a "juicy fruit party" to get rid of her moles.
Good luck
