I feel like my baby girl just isn't interested in nursing anymore. I work full time and mostly nurse a couple times in the morning and then to pretty much get her to sleep at night. I feed her infant food, rice cereal and supplement with formula because she is always at g-ma's while I am at work. I tried pumping, but honestly I dont think I produce enough milk. She is now almost 6 months and it isnt an imposition on me or anything, I love having the power to conquor my crying fussy baby when no one else can....lol. But is it worth it? Has breastfeeding this long been helpfull still?? When did you stop?
Thanks! :)

Babies receive benefits from breastfeeding for as long as you decide to breastfeed, not just within the first 6 weeks, 6 months or 1 year. World Health Organization recommends 2 years of breastfeeding at least. Keep going for at least a year.

Hi there! Breast feeding for ANY length is better then none at all. Breast feeding for 6 months is GREAT! Congrats! I will really encourage you to keep at it if it is not an imposition, I would continue as long as you can. Even if you don't feel you produce enough, you are supplementing so it is not like she isn't getting what she needs nutritionally. However, the bond you create with her is irreplaceable! I LOVED nursing my babies. My middle child I nursed until about 13 months. It was his choice and he just stopped one day. My youngest I just stopped nursing for medical reasons. He is also 13 months now. He is miserable with it! He is such a boob baby! :o) He really loves the comfort and closeness. I would still be nursing him if I didn't have to stop. I did start supplementing with cows milk at 12 months b/c we slowed down to nursing int he morning and the night like you. HTH! Take Care!

Breastfeeding for any amount of time is better than not at all. You've done well! Props to ya for that. Personally I would continue the night feedings as long as you both are willing... but I can see why you would switch to full formula. Since she isn't having an issue with the switch I see no reason to prolong the weaning if that is your choice to wean now. If you want to produce more milk try drinking Fenugreek tea... available at GNC.... me personally... I would continue on with the nursing as you can for the bond if nothing else... but there is no shame in weaning now... You have done more than a lot of mom's I hear of! Good for you.

they get the most benefits in the 1st 6 weeks. most doctors recommend going until 6 months if you can. 1 year is always recommended. I stopped at 3 months because I had to pump and had the same problem as you, my milk eventually just stopped coming in.

most importantly you should be breastfeeding as long as it is a comfortable experience for both you and the baby, if you feel that you are done, then you should stop.

If you choose to continue to breastfeed, talk to you doctor, midwife, or lactation consultant and they can give you products that will help bring your milk in better.

I breastfed my firs until 8 months, and he didnt want it anymore. My second was 7 months when I weaned him b/c I was prego with my 3rd! And I breastfed her until she was 5 months and she kept biting and I got an infection. So if you feel that youre done breastfeeding, its okay. Or if you want to keep trying, thats also good. You could try bottle feeding during the day and just breast feeding before bed or something. But you still have to give your baby breast milk or formula until she is 1.

If she isn't into it, then you can let it go.

You can also go for quite a while with the morning/evening nurse, if you choose.

You will find other ways to "conquor your fussy baby when no one else can" - I promise.

It is sad to let it go...

I was definitely ready to stop at 6 mos but my son wasnt and I continued until he was a little over a year. Really it is a personal choice and ANY breastmilk they get is beneficial. If you are ready to stop and she is ready then stop. You will probably be sad and fell a little guilty and miss the bond, that's what happened to me. Good luck!

I didn't breastfeed my children beyond 5 months old. It's right for you when it's right for you -- meaning, there is no set date to do this.

If it's right for YOU to wean, then do so. Your baby will not suffer if you choose to wean at this point.

Sweet Pea yes breast feeding is helpful for the period you did it. I would say if the baby is not interested anymore don't force her because she may want to try something new or different. You just have to figure out what to do next. Good luck!
