Well, It all depends on what type of gamer you are. Right now I have a ps3 and I LOOOOVE IT!! Both are good though, but I think the PS3 is the bigger bang for your buck.
Here is my recommendation:

If you want a multimedia console that has online(gaming, movie downloads, etc) overall focus on intense gaming (like mature and teen games), and great exclusives(ex: Gears of War, Halo 3, Tenchu Z, etc): Then get the Xbox 360

Some Xbox 360s have hardware problems. My friend is on his 3rd Xbox 360 (red rings of death), which he bought his first one at launch. But also my one friend who recieved his last Christmas hasn't had any problems. Microsoft now gives a 3 year warrenty, so just incase it does happen your going to be protected for a while.

If you want a multimedia console that has FREEE online, is well balanced with all types of games, good exclusives as well (Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ninja Gaiden:Sigma, Little Big Planet, Resistance etc) and many other features like Web Browsing and PS3 Home: Then get the PS3

Ps3 doesnt have rumble in the controllers though, which is one part I hate about it. Around christmas rumble controllers will be released though.

I like the PS3 because it comes with wifi, blue-ray, 60gb, and rechargeable controllers. Also if you wanted this same amount of power (except for more gigs) on your xbox 360 elite ($479) it would cost around $846.98 total for the wifi ($99), HD-Player( $179), 1 year of XBOX live ($50), Charge Kit ($20)

This would save you around 380 bucks

PS3 Price: (estimated cost around $550 with hdmi chord)

Plus: Microsoft only allows the 360 to be compatible with Microsoft equipment (ex: hardrive and headset) So if you like wanted to upgrade you ps3 or buy a mic, you could go to ebay and find one really cheap. I found a mic for 4 bucks and have found 120gb hardrives on ebay for around 100 bucks, still making it cheaper than the 360. But then again you might not use these extras, so you might wanna go for the wii or xbox 360 since of the price difference.

Many people also compare the PS3 to the Xbox 360 and say that the Xbox 360 is better based on present facts. DUHH! The 360 has been out a year longer than the PS3. The PS3 hasn't even been out for very long to release all these great games and present all of its great features. By christmas the PS3 will have great games, along PS3 Home, and xbox 360 will only have the overated Halo 3. Dont get me wrong, Halo is a great series, but it is just overated.

Again like I said, it all revolves around what you like and what you can afford. If you can afford anyone of the consoles and like anything, then I would go for the PS3.

PS: Also all these next gen systems will be good in the long run. They will last for around 10 years. So saving up for the PS3 is the wisest choice. The PS3 will get tons of exclusives around christmas (Lair, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc) and many of these exclusives are new unlike previous exclusives like the Metal Gear Solid series.

Get the ps3, its better in the long run for the games you like too

The PS3 is the better choice. It has the hardware and there will be next summer that are 10 times better then the 360 such as killzone 2, metal gear solid 4,Final fantasy 13 andd alot more. Plus it has the blu ray player so that means that every game can be in HD plus you can upscale a normal DVD to HD as well. Then you got the Hard drive. It will be 80 gig soon and that should be enough to last a lifetime. There is also gonna be a tivo service in the future as well as movies that you can buy from the PS store.

The 360 has the red ring of death which has been proven to have 1/3 consoles completly break due to a faulty heating system causing it to overheat. Plus it scratches discs to the point of no repair ans MS refuses to replace them. Plus xbox live service costs money unlike the PS network which is free. Why would you want tp pay to play online? Do not trust a product with reliability like that. Stay with the ps3 and you will have a gaming system that will last 10 years while 360 is planning to keep for5

I own both and my call is that are BOTH just as good...

for PS3 I own:

Madden 2007
NCAA Football 08
Need For Speed: Carbon
Resistance: Fall of Man
Pirates of the Carribean
Spider-Man 3

For Xbox 360 I own:

Madden 2006 & 2007
NBA Live
NBA 2K6 & 2K7
Fight Night Round 3
Sonic: The Hedgehog
PGR
Tomb Raider: Legend

As far as graphics and everything goes, I guess PS3 gets the slight edge cause I am partial to Blu-ray and the graphics are REALLY good....

But, 360 has better games, with the exception of Resistance: Fall of Man for the PS3 which is one of the BEST games I have played in a while as far as RPG's and shooters go. The story line was awesome and it was an all around GREAT game, 10 out of 10, I'd say.

Because there are MORE people who own the slightly older 360, you'll find MORE people to face in on-line play for 360 is what I've discovered...

Also, Halo 3 is coming out... and you can only get it on 360... and Halo is awesome no matter what...
But, there is Resistance: Fall of Man, and a sequel to that coming out... but Halo is SO bad azz...

PS3's controllers DONT need batteries, they have a lithium cell inside that you charge like a cell phone with USB cables and wireless is standard... 360 wireless is NOT standard, you have to pay $60 per controler... and you also need to pick up a charger and rechargeable AA batteries... so, your looking at about $130.00 for 2 wireless controlers and the re-chargeables in addition to what you spend on games and the system...

You NEVER need to touch the PS3... if you wave your finger above the power and eject "buttons", it does it for you... Also, the PS3 combo remote is better, but unlike the 360 does NOTHING with Microsoft or windows or your PC...

As far as longevity is concerned, I've heard some BAD tales of the 360's life expectancy... including tales of a red ring of death... I have not heard anything bad about PS3's life expectancy...

Also, with 360 it's $50.00 a year to play on-line, and with PS3 it's a free service...

They are both just as good, but if I could only have one I'd go PS3... There are just too many perks to ignore...

PS3
Sports wise, both will be the same by xmas once the yearly updates kick in.
Shooters,
360 obviously has Halo3 but PS3 has Killzone 2, Haze, as well as cross-platform titles like Half-life 2, Unreal tournament 3..
In other words, PS3 will have just as good a line-up as the 360, if not better thanks to Metal Gear 4 and Sonys first party titles like Lair, Heavenly sword, Gran turismo, etc.
PS3 also has blu-ray. 360 games will only ship on DVDs.
Some may argue that the Blu-ray is only for movies and a waste but several developers are already starting to find the extra size beneficial and we're barely a year in (see interviews with Criterion, the guys who make Burnout, and Rockstar; GTA).
And obviously, you don't need to spend every other month waiting for your console to come back from the repair shop (see red ring of death)

Kind of the question of all questions. ;)

I would honestly have to say if you were really gonna spend the money, go for the PS3. Theres a few reason I say this...

1)Blue-ray will be the dominant next-gen DVD (is already, 70% of movies as of today and climbing)
2)The PS3 hardware has proven to be superior and will be "top notch" longer than the 360.
3)"Home" the online community coming out for PS3 is just like "second life". It's free and just looks so awesome.
4)A wider variety of games as the console life lengthens. Xbox tends to get restricted to just platformers and shooters.
5)The ability to download and play older PS1, PS2 and Sega games.
6)Final Fantasy XIII. Metal Gear Solid IV. (might not be your particular cup of tea, but WOW none the less...)
7)Better, more ergonomic controllers and dualshock is returning finally...
8)Did I mention hardware? Do a side-by-side comaprison. It's obvious who has the superior box.

it is all in basic terms opinion. 360's are genereally concentrated extra in the direction of jsut the hardcore gamer with titles like gears of conflict. It does no longer positioned lots of an emphasis on multimedia. The ps3, whilst no longer the main usual in terms of video games is able to somethings that the 360 isn't working example the blu ray participant. all of it comes right down to what you would be utilising it for.

I like both! I currently have a 360, but am planning on getting a PS3. If you are into exclusives and online gaming, Go 360. If you want a cheap Blu-ray player, and some good holiday titles, plus can afford it, go PS3
