Leaving bias aside. Liberals tend to believe more in Government entitlements: National Health Care, Welfare. Higher taxes for the richest people to supplement these programs.

Conservative believe in self sufficiency. They believe in tax breaks to big companies so more money is spent to keep the economy rolling.

Historically liberal have always fought for the progressive, abortion, gay marriage and such. Conservative tend to hold an older biblical traditional way about social policies.

In today's politics who knows what anyone really believes. Because if either side says anything the least bit out of line it is on every blog or news clip.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS DESTROYING OUR GREAT COUNTRY!

Actually, the titles don't mean much anymore. At one time to be Conservative meant you were for:
Small government. States rights, minimal governmental rule, Minimal foriegn intervention. Let the marketplace sorth things out.

To be a Liberal meant that you were for:
Government being of and for the people playing a big role in people's lives. Active participation in world activities.

The introduciton of the NeoConservative has changed all that. The NeoConservative momement's, spearheaded by Richard Nixon, motto could be "The Ends Justify the Means Even if it Turns out Badly." After the disgrace of Vietnam, Ronald Reagan popularized the motto, "My Country Right or Wrong."

Now the NeoCons, starting with Reagan, have expanded government in size and spending. They pay for this increase in spending not throough taxes (pay as you go) but through increasing debt to other nations. They also have involved themselves in other country's affairs. They also have taken over many of what had been state's rights. The NeoConservatives have this belief that Liberals are less or even anti- American. This ignorance was started in the pulpit of evangelistics wanting more power in Washington in hopes of making their religion the national religion (Like the Taliban are trying to do). The idea they preached was to make the USA a Christian nation. The idea caught on to people who had begun to distrust their goverfnment. Of course the NeoCons promised to clean up government but became even more corrupted by their new-found power than the old guard had been which in turn caused my evangelics to stop trying to garner political power and go back to evangelizing about their God.

So there are 3 groups now:

the Democrats, who are pretty weak and generally follow 3 steps behind the Republicans but show signs of breakng away.

The Republicans who have been taken over by the NeoConservatives although since the scandals have shown the NeoConservatives to be so corrupt, have begun to separate themselves from the Neo's and even join the Democrats on more issues.

The NeoConservatives: Pretty much the brain child of corporations wanting to run government by creating a huge block of evangelistic Americans. Loosely based on theological dogma and "America Uber Alles!" Came to the peak of their power with the attack on the Twin Towers but are now loosing power as Americans come out of their shock and are wanting us our of Iraq.

Liberals believe in freedom of choice, freedom of individual conduct, no govt restriction on business or behavior (except as needed -- see criminal justice). Liberals believe in a free market economy (capitalism), and oppose socialism.

Socialists (often confused with liberals) want govt regulation of business, and govt-funded charities. Some socialists have a liberal agenda with regard to personal conduct, while others have a conservative agenda. Democrats are mostly socialist nowadays, though they used to be liberal.

Conservatives value tradition and conformity. They want to be able to regulate personal behavior.

Some conservatives favor govt regulation of both people and businesses (neo-cons), while some only want to regulate people and oppose govt regulation of business (fiscal conservatives).

Liberal-Ignorant

Conservative-Intelligent

You don't need to know much more than that.

Gryph your definition of Liberal is the exact definition of the modern Conservative. You always confuse liberal thought with the leftist political movement that has labeled itself Liberal. It does a disservice to truth man. The leftist that calls himself "liberal" does not support any of your examples, not one. Except you are smarter than that so you are just lying. Uncalled for!

Here is a link to a site that spells it out plain and simple.

Obviously, there are variations, and you don't have to be decidedly one or the other.
