It makes me devastated to see all of the animals in cages without homes, so desperate for attention and love. I didn't feel this way as much before I got a dog, but now I'm not even sure I can go in the animal shelter without crying! Is anyone else this way?

Yes...and the "animal control" facility is even more depressing. They have animals for adoption there, but only about 20 that are picked from the masses and kept in the front of the building.

In the back part of the place, there are HUNDREDS more that never have the slightest chance of being chosen for adoption. They just go in, wait a few days, and die, without ever being seen by anyone.

Visiting the animal shelter is guaranteed tears. I just want to take every animal home with me. If I was rich, I'd have a big house out in the middle of nowhere. I could have as many animals as I wanted and they could all run free. People could come by and visit if they just wanted to give love to the animals. Well-I can dream, cant I?

Why are you going to the animal shelter, unless you are adopting an animal? If I found an animal, I would keep it. All of my animals are strays except my hamsters, they were given to me by a family who had hamster and then they had babies.

BROADWAYCHIC: There is no such thing as safe breeders. If you want a dog, go to the animal shelter. breeders only do it for the money, give an abused animal another chance.

We walk the dogs one night a week and we have to pass by the cats.
We now have 8 cats and take home the dogs so they can socialize with humans and families. We have 4 dogs of our own.

This started as a project to teach our daughter that you can't be a taker all your life and you need to give back, too.

It is sad seeing all of the animals caged and wanting attention.

We went to the animal shelter to adopt a dog and my heart broke. All those animals looking up at you and only wanting a home and a family to love them. YES! It TOTALLY breaks my heart! Last time I was there it brought tears to my eyes.

I wish I could bring all the animals home, but I can't because my chihuahua is very territorial. It breaks my heart that those animals can't always find good homes. But it also comforts me that there are many animal-lovers who go into shelters everyday and come home with a new furry lifelong friend who will always be grateful.

Yes it does. Here in England it is very expensive to adopt a dog or a cat, you have to have your home inspected to see if it's safe for the animal. Then they do yearly visits to check on you and the animal. I think if they were to reduce the price of the unwanted pets but keep up with the visits and checks, the shelters will soon clear very quickly.

Yes, it is so sad. All I want to do is take them all home with me. But, I know I can't. All of those "throw-away-pets are the result of other irresponsible people not getting their pets spayed or neutered. I adopted the dog and cat from a shelter. At least I was able to "save" 2 pets from being euthanized.

I went to the shelter at PetSmart to get my cat three years ago. There was nothing sad about it at all. The cats in cages all looked really bored and lazy and maybe a little fat too. I'm quite sure they were all eventually adopted by loving families.
