I live in the U.S. right now and if I wanted to move to Australia does anyone know the immigration process regarding residency, work and buying a home? Is it very strict and what restrictions (if any) apply?

There is quite a bit of information to go through - best bet is to visit these sites and do a bit of reading::::
Immigration for Australia - http://www.immi.gov.au
Australian Government - http://www.australia.gov.au
Australian Tourism - http://www.australia.com
Working In Australia - http://www.workingin-australia.com
Becoming an Australian Citizenship - http://www.citizenship.gov.au/

Also this site http://www.justlanded.com/english/australia has everything in simple terms if you like... applying to live here, how to get a job, buying a home, property here etc...
