Morlocks - they were human but they "evolved" to the monster like state they now are.

They are called the Morlocks.
For a more accurate to the book version, check out the original Time Machine, directed by George Pal and starring Rod Taylor. It was made in the early 60s and was considered a technical marvel in term of special effects.

i can't remember what they were called, but as the story went when the moon exploded most of humanity moved under ground. those people evoled to those weird lookin critters. they were meat eating sensitive to sunlight. and they were controlled by the badguy at the end. the people that stayed on the surface were like us. happy people trying to learn new things. they lived in the little dome lookin things above the river. so basically one species evolved into two.
