Yes, the copies of the Gettysburgh address that are still available are all different in some details and the newspaper accounts differ as well. The official Gettysburgh address used is the history books are historians best guess as to the actual speech given.

You have to remember that at the time, most political speeches lasted for a long time, the person who spoke immediately before Lincoln, Edward Everett, who was the featured speaker, spoke for 2 HOURS.

So many newspaper reporters covering the speech were not prepared for such a short speech and may have missed portions of it.

In addition, you must remember, like today's major media tv stations and newspapers, the newspapers in 1863 were little more than smear organs of the political parties.

This speech, is generally regarded by most historians as one of the best speeches in the history of the world, but democratic newspapers at the time decried his speech as silly and not presidential. They didn't CARE what he actually said, they only cared about how they could SPIN it to their democratic readers in favor of their democratic politicians.
