They produce oxygen for the fish, remove CO2 from the tank, remove ammonia and nitrate, remove phosphate, and many other things. Go ahead and plant them, as long as they're aquatic plants.

Live plants produce oxygen for the tank during day time. at night time they USE oxygen so make sure you don't have too many plants. Also, plants prefer ammonia over nitrate. if there is nitrate and nitrite, then they would chose nitrite because they use less energy trying to convert nitrite to ammonia.

sure- plant them. I got some not too long ago. ONce they sprout, they grow pretty darn fast. But, some of mine didn't sprout. Just make sure to remove the ones that don't so they don't decay in the tank. They do take up nitrates and add oxygen.

Ditto to the previous answer, they can do both of those things, but only a few plants in a tank will have no really noticeable impact on the tank.

Live plants can utilize nitrates ( the last biproduct of the nitrogen cycle) as fertilizer to help them grow, they reduce algae, and can increase D.O. or dissolved oxygen.
