With the exception of the unlocked multiplier on the FX-62, these are the exact same processor, meaning they will have the exact same performance. I have no clue what the last guy was talking about with the single threaded versus multithreaded garbage, because these are both dual core, and in fact the exact same processor. The only difference is the unlocked multiplier, which allows the FX-62 to overclock a bit easier. Now in case you are wondering why AMD would release the exact same processor twice, here is why.

The FX is always supposed to be the flagship processor, the fastest one out. So initially the fastest X2 was the 5000+, which had a 2.6Ghz processor, and 2x512 cache. The FX-62 was released at the same time, with a 2.8Ghz processor, and 2x1024 cache, making it the fastest available. But then Intel released the Core 2 Duos, and there $300 model left the $600 FX-62 in the dust. In response, AMD released faster versions of the X2, the 5600+ and the 6000+, with 2.8Ghz and 3.0Ghz processors, both with 2x1024 cache. So this is how the 5600+ ending up having the same specs as the FX-62, and the 6000+ ended up being faster than both.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing, this slipped my mind, the 5600+ does have a TDP of 89W versus the 125W of the FX-62, which means it runs a little cooler, which will allow it to overclock a little better as far as heat goes.

Many people say that the best dual-core gaming processor out there is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (Which is the Fastest X2 out there there is no 6550 unless maybe there is a Intel Core 2 Duo E6550). For single-threaded apps I would get the FX-62, for gaming and multi-threaded apps I would get the X2 5600+. But whichever one you choose, they both are awesome.

FYI - AMD processors own Intel in gaming!

They would have similar performance in most applications. The FX 62 may have an edge in games plus easier overclocking w/ its unlocked multiplier. BUT it draws up to 125 watts. The X2 5600+ draws up to 89 watts only.

fx came first....

it depends on what you want to do with it...single thread application one at a time = fx faster....muli-processor application or more than one thing running 56xx faster.

FYI...the new duo smoke both of those processors from the 6550 up.
