Hello! There's this brick pillar at the front of my house, and it's apparently hollow and there's a racoon family inside! (Well, all i've seen is the mom, but if you put your ear to it you can hear the babies!)

http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x126/BuckRogers2/?action=view¤t=Picture378.jpg - the mom on the top!

http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x126/BuckRogers2/?action=view¤t=Picture379.jpg a close up!

What do they like to eat? I've tried cheese, which she turned down, so what would she like?

Don't feed them! What if they're rabbid?

Call animal control, they'll relokate them to a better place(I don't mean put down)

Sheesh! I'd think you would know THAT!

Oh yea, racoons are NOT pets.

EDIT: PENGUINS!(yes, that was random)

If you feed them, you are going to make them lose their fear of humans. They could then approach another human, thinking that person will be nice, like you, and feed them. This could result in them being killed or injured by someone who is either cruel or afraid that the raccoons have rabies.

Just leave them alone, and hope that they move on quickly. If that is not an option, if they start showing agression, contact a Nuisance Wildlife Control Professional. You can find them here: http://www.wildlife-removal.com/faq.htm

These people are licensed to trap and relocate nuisance wildlife. They will not kill the raccoons, and they will not seperate the momma from her babies.

Do not call animal control or the police or the humane society or a local animal shelter. This could result in the raccoons being euthanized rather than relocated.

I would avoid feeding them. They may be cute but the adults are usually mean, even if they've been raised by people. They're extremely smart, too, and once they figure out where the food is coming from they'll probably figure out how to break into your house and raid your kitchen.

Susan W is right, it is against the law to harbor or feed wild animals for two very good reasons: 1. they are mean and will bite. 2. they can carry rabies without actually having rabies,
so domesticated puppies and kittens in your neighborhood are at risk. Don't be afraid to call animal/wildlife control, they can place them in a habitat meant for raccoons. They will be fed, not be putting anyone at risk, and not be at risk of being
hit by a car. (It is cute-good picture--are those your Ginnie Pigs? they are cutie pies!!)

Are you sure you want to feed them? Once you start, you'll have to continue. And if you ever stop, they will continue to look for food from you, even if that means going through your garbage and into your house. And don't get caught feeding them as in many places, it is illegal to feed wildlife.

But if you insist, raccoons love dry dog and cat food, as well as pieces of meat, fruits (grapes are a favorite) and some veggies.

GT is right. Why do you think they wear masks?
