80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The true meaning of life is relative to everyone. But, the most important principle to reach the true meaning of life is to be yourself. Life has its meaning when it is lived according to the nature you're born into. That's why, we need not to compare our lives to others or living our lives according to the standards set by others. We can get the meaning of life when we can do the things we value as right without caring much of what people will say about us. Even when we have done the nicest thing ever in this world, there are still some people will say what we do is devilish. Jesus Christ has proven it.

I have tried to figure this out, as have many scientists, philosophers, and others, but lets face it: all we can do is guess and try to be the best people we can and live a life to help others.

One of the theories I have heard is that while our souls were in Heaven, or the afterlife, or whatever you call it, we did something wrong and are punished which is resulted in life. The theory says that life is a test to figure out which ones of us are truly good people and which ones mess up. Basically it means that life is our hell which is only temporary. I personally don't believe that theory, I just think it's interesting.

I do not know what exactly I believe, because there are so many theories that are begging for attention. But I do know that I have to be a good person, and not be selfish. I just pray and help others and don't really let myself worry about the meaning that much, all though I really want to know, as does everyone. I use to hate life and just tell myself that we were all just going to die, but we have to be here for a reason and I don't want to ruin this oppurtunity, gift, test, miracle or whatever it may be.

Not my opinion but the Opinion of Ancient Vedas and Great saints spiritual masters and sages. First of all we are not this material body, IE; race, color, nationality, job, religion, gender, mind, intellect, senses, etc.) We are eternal spirit souls, Part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only the body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. Only one fourth of the souls come here, (The less intelligent ones, That's us)) The rest are enjoying eternal blissful loving pastimes, with our Maker in the eternal spiritual kingdom. Those who are intelligent and no longer interested in chewing the chewed (getting no taste out of this world) take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) and transcend this illusion. (See DVD Trueman show with Jim Carry, to get an idea what I am talking about. Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- tells the process. asitis.com also go to harekrishnatemple.com for details.

Me personally i believe the meaning of life is to grow; learn from life's experience to be stronger. If you notice a human being/animal will never travel backwards from where it originally started. ex. From being a teenager you can not go back into being a baby. The same goes for life's experience. You can not be burned from fire and assume later on that fire can not burn. by being burned we learn that fire will harm you. our duty here is to learn and grow from what we learned. We are simply being trained for what ever god has in stored for us... thats my reasoning for being here
