I know this is a silly question but to me it is very interesting and I am curious to see peoples answers to this.....

What do you think the purpose of a persons life is? Say for example when you or your partner has a child.....do you ever wonder if they given life to do or achieve something ?

People these days go to work and pay their taxes etc but is there a bigger picture out there who knows.....

Thanks for looking at my question(s)

I don't think life has purpose. I think life is just living. You are born, you live and eventually you die. Everything else is ebb and flow...

Some of us get ahead in life, some of us get sucked into the abyss... Some of us marry, some live alone, some produce offspring and others don't.

You can be the perfect parents and your child becomes a mass murder. Many upstanding citizens originated from borken homes.

There is no rhyme or reason to life. You just live it then you die.

g-day!

Well, if you really want to feel small in the universe, the purpose of life is simply to duplicate and continue our species. On the grand scale of things, we are just another form of bacteria rising from the ocean and striving to be better than the rest of the pond scum.

But it should be noted also, that Humans are the one thing that the planet would do better without. If Earth had a voice, the name it would give mankind is VIRUS.

I think the main purpose why people live is to grow as a person; that is, to develop their characteristics and personality. Witnessing people leave and enter this world is a great phenomenon no matter how many people might take it for grant it. Understanding why things happen and knowing what's what is an addition to our ever-growing knowledge. Live every moment like it's the last and appreciate what we have and try to overcome jealousy and envy. We were placed on this Earth for a reason. Everything happens for a reason. Take advantage of every opportunity. Experience morphs into knowledge and in the end you learn. Carpe Diem.

To be happy and useful, say some.
I don't think everyone has a 'special purpose' or that 'everything happens for a reason' or that 'what goes around comes around'.
It's all random. You just have to deal with whatever occurs, the happy things, the tragic things, etc. as best you can and get on with it.

Your question presupposes a Creator. When you say "given life to do or achieve something", it requires an intelligence to give it a purpose.

If there is no Creator/God, then we have no purpose given to us and we can't invent purpose for ourselves because we can't give ourselves a reason why we are here. Evolution is a mindless natural process that cannot give purpose any more than a snowstorm can give purpose to a snowflake.

If there is a God, then the overriding quest, far more important than our search for purpose in life, ought to be our quest to find our Creator. It makes sense to me that, if He exists, He put our great need for purpose into our human nature to push us to seek Him.

If we reject God, then our search is not for purpose but for feelings of self-worth. We can do things, e.g. work in a homeless shelter, that make us feel good about ourselves and then delude ourselves into feeling that working in the homeless shelter is our purpose.

I have no idea. You're born, you live a life - not always in good health and of your choosing, work, and pay taxes, if you're lucky you have children that survive you, then you die. If that's a purpose then I can't see it. Seems like a waste of time to me.

The purpose is whatever the individual chooses.

The bigger picture is simply the continuation of our species.

Each person's purpose is exactly what they choose it to be. Some people have no purpose, because they choose to have no purpose. Personally speaking mine is to be happy in the circumstances in which I find myself and ultimately to give my son the best possible start in life

I think that every person has to determine their own purpose in life, so there's really not an answer to that question.

The purpose of life is to learn how to make it in this world, accept changes and to have as much fun in the process!
