You know, I've heard that happiness is a constant. You stay relatively the same in terms of happiness regardless of the outer circumstances unless you make a point to change your perspective. However, I think people are probably happier when they have enough---not too little, not too much. When I lived in the ghetto growing up, I was scared, my mom was depressed, and we had little security. That sucked. When I got older, conditions got a little better and I think I got a little happier. But I think that if I had too much, there would be little left to strive for and appreciate. So I think that, although there are people from all walks of life who are happy and unhappy...people in the middle are probably in the best position.

Less.
Have you ever been in a house that a pack-rat dwells in? They fill up the space with so much junk that they don't know what they have. So, how can you appreciate what you have if you don't know what you have because you've got too much?
Have you seen that show, 'My name's Scott Baio & I'm single at 45"? This dude's had so many women he can't remember what he's stuck it in. Kinda funny, and sure many dudes want this ... but this SOB is the lonliest and most lost soul I've witnessed on TV.
Then we can all see what happens when you let an addict have as much deep-fried pizza as they want ... yeah, it's called morbid obesidy.
All of these gluttonious exampels demonstrate people with little self control. It is in the self-control that we can find the true happiness.
When you have less, you can appreciate it more. You can be thankful with any additional stuff that you get. The more is leaning you to gluttony which comes in a wide varity to gorge yourself in your gluttonious desires.

I think it's easier to be happier with less--in general. Doesn't apply to everything, but to have less material goods means to appreciate them more.

Great question. I think it is "easier" to be happier with less. More seems to come with a huge price tag...one way or another. The happiness you thought you felt (or you convinced yourself of) comes crashing down.

Wow, that's a good question. Both. It's easier to be happy with more because you don't have to ask for more. And I think it's easier to be happy with less because you have less to worry about. Understand my logic?

I think it is easier to be happy with less. Have been at both ends of the rainbow and the less the better.

Yo Matt
Seen just about every scenario that there is on this one Matt
seen the most unhappy poor and the happiest people that they could be without much more than each other !! I've seen extremely miserable wealthy folks and ones who get up every day in fantasy land !!
So, it comes down to a viewpoint here -- and mine is that it is extremely arbitrary and hinges an awful lot on the mindset and the attitudes about one's own station in life and how one views what they have within that life !!

I've seen just as many people who are happy with less as people are with more. Some people are never happy no matter how much they have but a lot of people can be happy with what they have and not want for more. I guess it's all up to the individual.

It depends on what people are looking for. I don't want to be wealthy beyond my dreams. Just enough to get by, and have some in savings for a rainy day. I don't need a $50,000 car to drive around. A simple $10,000 or less vehicle is plenty fine by me.
I own a small 1bdrm condo, and you know what, it works for me. I don't need much to be happy. Just to be happy with what I have and if that don't do me right, I'll strive for better.

Less or more what? Money? Sex? Health? You need to be more specific in your question. But overall happiness is a state of mind, it has nothing to do with money or social status or any material thing. The secret is be happy with what you got, if you are greedy then you won't be happy even if you are a billionaire.
