I have a '99 silverado ex cab 1500 5.3 liter 1/2 ton automatic I want to pull a double axle trailer with a v-6 camaro on the back? Will my truck pull this combination, and how well? Has anyone ever completed a pull like this? Is anything special required to pull this or will the truck pull it fine stock?

Your silverado will pull the double axle trailer fine. The 5.3 is a strong engine and great drive line.If your truck has the tow haul button please use it to tow.If you dont have the tow haul button drop the shifter one click from drive to the right to stop the overdrive system.Be safe and best of luck.

I once towed a 20Ft flat deck with no trailer brakes and a 3000pound car on top with a 1988 2.4L 4cylinder automatic Nissan short box, the car on the trailer weighed more then my truck! This was also in the winter in Canada! It did fine and I still passed everything on the road. However that is not a recommended thing to do but in your case I believe your truck is big enough for the load you plan to haul but yes a external tranny cooler is a very good idea especialy if you plan on making this a regular activity for your truck. They are available at summitracing.com, a B&M super cooler is the best and is only $45 and come with everything you need to install it yourself in under 1hour. Tow in Drive not overdrive and if you think it's getting hot just stop and give it a rest but it should handle it just fine. The suspension is plenty heavy enough and the motor has enough power.

Personally, I would say you are underpowered to tow it with that. Secondly, the suspension is light for that.

I never like to pull a car hauler with anything less than a 3/4 ton or at the very least a heavy half. My concern is two fold: putting too much strain on the motor, tranny and suspension, and being able to control the trailer if and when I ever have to dynamite the brakes.

A half ton is too light for me, I want the suspension there to be able to handle the reaction when all that weight shifts when you hit the brakes.

and do NOT tow it in overdrive! and make sure you have the max air pressure in those rear tires... plus, check the rating on your hitch ball...it should be at least 5000 lbs. take it easy and allow twice the normal time for braking.

No problem, allow extra braking and use 3rd gear whole time, no overdrive.
