Sugar, the calorie content and sugar content of beer is really high. Drinking a six pack is like eating a handful of candy bars everyday.
All fermented drinks have sugar.

They'd have a so-called beer belly if they eat fries all day and never drink alcohol.

However, the beer is not only high in empty calories, it is also bulky. It tends to stretch the stomach. What then happens next time you eat is you don't feel 'full', so you eat a little more. It's a vicious cycle. The calories from the beer, the bigger stomach, the additional food - you end up putting weight on in the middle of your body.

With women, the same process occurs, except they store fat more easily in the thighs and buttocks, hence the 'pear shape' a lot of overweight women develop.

Because beer is a lot of empty calories. A regular beer is over 200 calories, most guys can drink 6 or more of them without trouble - that's over a 1000 calories that will be stored as fat. Add some chicken wings, peanuts....everyday after work for 15 years and it adds up. Most men put on weight in their stomachs, you don't get it just from beer - cheese burgers can give you same gut.

Women generally put on weight other places, like their hips, thighs etc...

Notice guys vs girls on the beach. Guy will have a big gut and little stick legs. Girl will have relatively small stomach w/big butt and fat legs.

When you get obese the fat goes everywhere.

The beer ingredients combined with the lack of exercise cause the beer belly. As for getting rid of it, cut back on how much beer you drink and exercise a bit more and you should start seeing it disappear.

I can't answer that really because a lot of men drink beer & don't get a big belly but they may not drink a lot. BUT yes beer does make you fat & a man stores his fat mainly in his belly so that will be the reason for the beer gut maybe

The beer converts to sugars which stores itself in the fat cells, of which the belly is a prime deposition location

Beer is high in carbs and calories. Plus when you're having a few beers you're usually just sitting around and relaxing and not being very active.
