This is going back a few years, but I think it used to be on ITV. As far as I remember it was broadcast around the late seventies or early eighties. The easiest way to describe it is: "Not Match of the Day, the other one." Its theme music was even more catchy and distinctive. It went something like: Der der der, der der der der der, der der der- der der der- der der der der der.

To those who mentioned World of Sport.. no, I remember the music and some of the titles for that. It was definitely The Big Match. Only trouble is I can't find a clip anywhere. :-(

Sorry Tufty Porcupine. I've tried the link a few times, but I keep getting a message telling me the download has been blocked, with a link redirecting me to Chris Moyles' site. When I follow the link I can't find the file anywhere. I've searched all the files and it comes up blank. I've also tried the link with my pop-up blocker turned off... still no luck.

I can't remember the theme, but 'The Big Match -Live' seems to ring a bell.
Apparently, they changed it in '86 and used the world cup theme Aztec gold by Silsoe, but i can't find a decent link to confirm this is the tune.

Yes, it's The Big Match, but I think you mean this theme (classic!!) (The one listed above and below was one they used earlier in the seventies. Spent ages searching for it myself until I found it on the Radio One web-site - Chris Moyles used it for the sport bit.):

yes i remember it it used to be on 3 oclock sunday afternoon and it was simply called FOOTBALL. It was hosted ny brian moore abd was the forerunner of the big match give me best answer please cos i know i am dead right because i saw myself in the crowd it was 1973 and man utd beat derby 3-0 at old trafford and i remember being right behind the scoreboard end goal ehen ian storey moore scored the 3rd goal

in the 70s there was a ITV football show called star soccer it used to be on a sunday?? altho if i heard it again i would remember the tune you lot are so out of tune you must be tone deaf lol.
