Typically you would use a standard flood light, but there are the new energy saver floods out there now, They cost more up front about $10.00 each but they use %75-80 less electricity. That means you get to put 75 cents on the dollar back in your pocket and not to the electric company. Be sure you have a good water tight seal in the light housing.

mr.obvious is only part right.

He forgot to mention any wiring that is within 10 feet of the pool requires GFCI protection and must be properly grounded. Check with the local electrical inspectors what is actually required. Varies from area to area. Get it in writing and signed by the inspector that does your area.

I believe mr.obvious is referring to Compact Fluorescent Lamps.
