What about 'black' people? Or is 'black' the proper name? If so would that mean that 'Asians', 'Latin', and 'Caucasians' should be called yellow, red, and white people respectably? Whats up with white people having their own special word (Caucasian) but no other races having any (unless I am woefully ignorant of such). Why don't some Filipino's consider themselves 'Asians'?

Maybe it is impossible to categorize people? Maybe everything's not black and white (No pun attended)!

Please, they don't teach us this stuff in school (lol)! Thanks.

I personally hate it when people label a race as a color be it white, yellow, black, brown, whatever...Some Filipinos don't consider themselves Asians maybe because they're mixed with Spanish more than Asians? Anyways, people who are from the continent of Asia are technically Asians. They could consider themselves differently based on their own ethnicities, which doesn't matter much to me. As long as s/he doesn't stink on the inside, then it's all good.

Human beings! Or Fellow Americans or Citizens, if they happen to be just that. Let's not be hung up on "color coding."

By the way, please note these facts, in case you didn't know yet:

1. "Black" as a term was used as a planned improvement
upon the degrading "*****" name. Later, a
further "upgrade" was reached through the use of a better
term "African American" to refer to our brothers' point of
origin rather than the color of their skin.

2. Caucasian is widely, but erroneously, believed to
be to mean "white" only. Not so. There are Black
Caucasoid people, like for example some peoples of
India. "Caucasian" does not mean white skin, but is a
group of people in early historical periods in some parts of
Europe and the middle east that are tall and with pointed,
aquiline noses. They could either be black or white.

3. It is not true that Filipinos (see the spelling of the plural
form) do not want to be called Asians. They do. The
misconception that they don't want to be called Asians
came about because of the way Census takers
wanted to group them separately from other yellow-
skinned, chinky-eyed Asians. And that was not the
Filipinos' idea (again, see the spelling of the formal name
in plural possessive form).

Long Live America. Viva Nuestra America. Mabuhay ang
Filipino sa America. Long Live Us All!

I rest my case!

Would you rather use the ethnic labeling such as Mongoloid for Asians, ******* for blacks, Caucasians for white? What would you call a blond blue eyed Hispanic lady? What about the Middle East? What are they? Some are black looking, others Asian looking and many are white looking. I had an African friend who was blond and blue eyed. He considered himself African because he was from Johannesburg, South Africa. Looking closely, Asians don't really have yellow skins, do they? Filipinos are Pacific Islanders by definition. I had a friend who is Filipino but he has Caucasian features because his parents were German immigrants. Similarly, I had another friend who was black with kinky hair, born in the Philippines and calls himself a Filipino but his parents were black immigrants. What's my point? One can never tell about a person but then who cares.

If by Asian looking you mean people who appear Asian and aren't I don't think there is a word for that. I fall in that category. I'm not Asian, but I look Asian because of the shape of my eyes. In Mexico people that look Asian are called Chino which just means Chinese. Ethnic categorization is too complex to be done properly.

I am part Filippino and Canadian. I was born and raised in Canada. It is my heritage and I am proud of it. A lot of the time people think I am Greek or Italian. So I don't pay too much attention to having a 'proper name'. I am me. . .and to those who don't like it. . .I don't care :)
I once had a guy talk ask me out because he thought I was Greek and when he found out my heritage he was less interested.
We shouldn't catergorize people based on race . . .it is so pointless.
