i just bought my girlfriend a new fish, and it seems not to respond to anything, much less even see the other five fish in the tank...whenever she puts fish flakes in the tank, the fish doesn't seem to see them, and finally eats them off the bottom.
he's a black moor, seemed healthy in the store and seems healthy now, just a little ditsy...any answers as to what may be wrong with him?

Yes, fish can be blind. Fish such as Black Moors that have deformed eyes are more prone to this problem.

There is in fact a blind fish - the Cave Tetra that is born without any eyes at all (Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus).

I would say that your fish is probably blind, either by harassment from previous tankmates, insufficient feedings, which is common in pet stores, or perhaps genetics. As long as you don't plan on breeding the fish, and he eats, I would say allow him to carry on his merry way. Feed a lot of rich foods, like frozen bloodworms (freeze dried float) and you might get lucky and have his eyesight return. Some fish have shown the ability to regenerate eyesight.

how long have you had the fish, goldfish don't usually eat off of the surface or even mid water, it will take some getting used to for your fish to realize he can eat from the surface.
