Well, since the peppers were already pickled, then they must have been in jars somewhere, probably in someone's cellar. Sounds like he was a thief. Or maybe a shoplifter.
Additional: Actually, Smarty Pantsâ¢, it was Peter Piper. Not just Peter. I just figured the Peter part of the name was left off of the question.

This is deeper than you think is because his father was the "Pheasant Plucker" and he was the Pheasant Pluckers Mate. He got ticked off with his dad becase he could Pluck more Pheasants so he decided to change his vocation... now Peter Piper Picks and is father Plucks.
