"They're standing on the corner
and they can't speak English.
I can't even talk the way these people talk:
Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English
except these knuckleheads.

You can't be a doctor
with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

In fact you will never get any kind of job
making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks
to get an education,
and now we've got these
knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people
are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting.
They are buying things for kids.
$500 sneakers for what ? ?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry
when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2 ? ?

Where were you when he was 12 ? ?

Where were you when he was 18,
and how come you didn't know
that he had a pistol ? ?

And where is the father ? ?
Or who is his father ? ?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward,
pants down around the crack,
isn't that a sign of something ? ?

Or are you waiting for Jesus
to pull your pants up?

Isn't it a sign of something
when she has her dress all the way up
and got all type of needles [piercing]
going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans.
Those people are not Africans;
they don't know a thing about Africa.

With names like Shaniqua,
Taliqua and Mohammed
and all of that crap,
and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education
is no longer the white person's problem.

We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed.
Today a woman has eight children
with eight different 'husbands' --
or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players
who cannot read.
We have million-dollar basketball players
who can't write two paragraphs.

We, as black folks, have to do a better job.
Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids,
you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other
to a higher standard..
We cannot blame the white people
any longer."

I'm a black man and I agree with him. It's sad when the government dumbs us down by saying we speak ebonics because we can't speak proper english. I don't care what they say about Bill Cosby. The fact is this is just one of the major issues facing black people in this country. We are the cause and we have to be the cure. There is nothing glorious about being ignorant. We don't have to embrace any of the systematic stupifying of Blacks and we don't need handouts. Have some pride about who we are and where we came from. If not that, have pride about who you are as an individual and stop taking the scraps that society tries to throw at us. Everyone hollering about reparations. We were not the ones doing the work. Our culture wants something for nothing. Ask for reparations? How many of us can even trace our family lineage back to the times of slavery? Uh- huh. Thats what I thought. Bill may have been harsh but he was right. And any real , true person regardless of color knows that.

I agree, that the statement is true. That people do not think about how the actions vibrate in the moment. They don't see the walls they build around their children by allowing mediocrity. I know it is hard to put pressure on kids, particularly when you are tired after work. But, how else do you think we can move from where we are, socially. I am a mom of 3, and it is hard. But then, I said -no tv- that helps.

And I hope that people like Dr. Cosby continue to shine a light on things like this, because it isn't about race. I see it everywhere, and I live in a small town. I see so many kids who can't seem to speak in an articulated fashion. And it limits their possibilities.

hurray for comedians, who tells us the painful truths about humanity. Ever watch Bill Cosby himself, now there is a real good look at us .... ?

Another good movie on this subject is the great My Fair Lady, it is well done, and it shows how difficult it can be to change, but that change can be done.

many best wishes,
green terra

He is very much alive and now a christian :D he is 72 years old As of 2008 Cosby continues to lecture to black communities (usually at churches) about his frustrations with certain problems prevalent in underprivileged urban communities such as taking part in illegal drugs, teenage pregnancy, Black Entertainment Television, high school dropouts, anti-intellectualism, gangsta rap, vulgarity, thievery, offensive clothing, vanity, parental alienation, single parenting and failing to live up to the ideals of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr. and the African American ancestors that preceded Generation X. Cosby criticizes those African Americans who associate his ideals with race treachery. Change a few of the names and the phrases and you can sell this in UK.

The home of the greatest language in the world and we are cursed with the laziest speakers. It is everyday occurrence to be audibly assaulted by children telling each other to 'Eff Off' - one never heard this on building sites and now our children think that is clever.

Children are having children and children are born without the luxury of fathers. And everyone has rights but no one has responsibilities. And it OK that on a site like this people have avatars showing the raising of a middle digit.

And it is OK for replies to be so vile that the authors think that they are amusing. And we all lower our heads and say 'they have the right'.

Well - I have the right to say you disgust me. All of you people who have thrown away your education for the approval of your equally dismal friends in their hoodies, hiding from any form of justice. You crawl around in the dark with your 'pack' and try to intimidate the weak and the vulnerable. You breed in the dark like animals in the field, fuelled by drink or drugs or the addiction of self debasement and you bring precious babies into the filthy world that you inhabit.

One day the page will turn and let us see then who you will run to for succour.

Hope beyond hope that you don't turn to me.

I like Bill Cosby and he is 100% right. The saddest thing about it is that that kind of subculture is a vicious circle cycle: the parents, their kids, their grandkids, their great grandkids.....etc....etc....etc...etc. And they will not come out of that cycle until they assume their responsibiblity. But for them, life it's easier if they keep blaming the government and the white people while they are sitting on their huge behinds, watching soap operas, and doing nothing about it.
