Personally I like the stereo version better. It's cleaner, easier to listen to, and the vocals come out more. You can really hear the vocals on the bridge of "Wouldn't it Be Nice," but on the mono version, not so much. Also, for some reason, Carl sings the tag at the end of "God Only Knows," but for some reason, Brian sings it on the mono version.

I have the Origianl mono version of Pet Sounds on a reel to reel tape. It sounds great!
I also have the stereo version; that is actually the remastered version in later years.
I happen to like the mono version. It sounds more genuine!

For me, it would be The Beach Boys Today! (1965). This album is the stepping stone that took the Beach Boys from their surf and hot rod songs to Pet Sounds. They grew musically and lyrically and started to use more studio production techniques that they would use to a much more greater effect on Pet Sounds.

The stereo version has vocal modifications on "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows."

I like the stereo more.
