Strictly speaking, the answer can be none of the above or some of the above. (d mystifies me)

The original settlers of Plymouth Colony were Puritans who were unpopular in their own country because they wanted everyone to follow their version of Christianity.

From other countries came those who were persecuted, such as Protestants from France. Their were also small sects such as the Anabaptists (ancestors of the Amish) who didn't really fit in anywhere in the old world.

Many people who had little hope of prosperity in their native lands thought the New World offered a chance unlike anything available at home. They not only sought gold and silver but just the chance of having a tract of land to farm and feed their family.

There were people of a missionary bent who wanted to convert the Native Americans although they were not the first settlers, but came later.

As a lifelong historian I hate seeing history reduced to a simple multiple choice question like yours as it limits the scope of one's thinking and understanding of events.

It could be all of those points you have stated & even more and different reasons other then those above, the original settlers also went to other States for the same reasons you have mentioned, maybe some settlers wanted to start a new life, maybe they it was too expensive in their native land so they thought more freedom and less work in the new world

The main settlers of these colonies you have stated were of British origin, or shall i say English, the English had companies in those states and so therefore they were bringing their families, visiting their relatives etc, and ended up living there, also dont foget its in the mentallity of the English to go to other nations, i would'nt say conquered or anything like that but to go to other lands to make a living, spread their knowlege whether that be of religion, bringing civilised rules etc, changing the way of life of the people of the land the English go, or other reasons, but its in their blood to explore and colonise.

The reasons the original settlers went to the colonies you mentioned and more colonies are the same reasons those same settlers settled in parts of Africa, Sub-Continent (India, Pakistan, Bengladesh), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Palestine, China (Hong Kong) and maybe others, and i believe the reason for this is as i have stated that its in their mentallity to explore so that could mean your points and many others, sorry for the long phrases, i just feel like to explain, lol.
