Maybe. Maybe the dream state is a parallel universe of sorts. Ghosts dwell on some plane, parallel to ours . . . but I still say maybe. I don't know.

According to String Theory they can and probably do. Yet the more accurate term you are looking for is a quantum parallel dimensional universe. The idea is that two universes could in theory cohabit the same universal space.
Now this can only occur in a particle centric universe where time and the constants of gravity, magnetism, and electron behaviors can exist and do flux.
The problem with all this is Time. To some Time is very real and can be altered in both speed and either the forward or reverse direction. This fact indicates that parallel universes can exist and probably do exist even cohabiting the same space.
On the other hand. there are some kind of cynics which do not play the game. These doubters maintain that Time is a human mathematical invention. If so Parallel Universes cannot exist because the whole basis of String, Quantum, and Relativity theories are not relevant. Both need the function of Time to base their realities.
Of course Einstein's reputation precedes him and his Relativity Theory includes Time in the equation thereby demanding a belief that Time does exist. Therefore if Time exists, Parallel Universes exist.

If string theory or 'brane' theory works to explain the properties of the fundamental particles then the answer is very probably. String theory requires there to exist another 7 spatial dimensions which are 'curled up' about the size of the Planck length. If we subscribe to the view that space time began with a sudden expansion from a size smaller than this characteristic length, followed by a rapid period of inflation, then it is eminently possible that other universes exist where different spatial dimensions were inflated. When our universe was about 10^-15m in size, symnetry breaking occured between all the forces and their ratios led to the unique physical circumstances of our universe and in particular the existence of life on earth. The argument is that an indefinite number of other universes were created simultaneously, with possibly different geometries and physical constants. Due to QMech there is only a finite number of particle configurations (for a finite 'verse' that can exist without repitition. After a distance of about 10^96 ly's you get identical 'copyverses' where your doppleganger exists doing exactly the same things at exactly the same time and all possible variations in between.

No. Our conceptions of certainty are nonetheless so rudimentary. there is not any longer something in physics that shows that parallel or reproduction universes exist. there may well be different universes or possibly no longer. Whats to assert that the massive bang can not happen in yet another component to area it is a lot from ours. Like bubbles in a champagne glass, they are ignorant of the life of others. Planets, photograph voltaic platforms, galaxies have been shown to be ample in the universe. If that repeats previous what we can see or think of, then that's possibly that the phenomena that reasons universes to exits became no longer a one-off and that different universes better than possibly do exists, whether we can not instruct it.

Parallel universe or alternate reality in science fiction and fantasy is a self-contained separate reality coexisting with our own. A specific group of parallel universes is called a multiverse, although this term can also be used to describe the possible parallel universes that comprise physical reality. While the terms "parallel universe" and "alternate reality" are generally synonymous and can be used interchangeably in most cases, there is sometimes an additional connotation implied with the term "alternate reality" that implies that the reality is a variant of our own. The term "parallel universe" is more general, without any connotations implying a relationship (or lack thereof) with our own universe.

The little speculation of the string theory and M theory and what not converge on the space unravelling recouse as like in the space unfurling in a contrivance of all reactions and possibilities that network into an infinite anomaly of parallel universes.
Beyond that, it may be correct to say in a somewhat cobbled way that successively, bets are collected both ways.

They exist if String Theory can be proved in the lab. Otherwise, its too early to say that they exist.
Equations resulting from String Theory assumptions that everything in the universe is made of small tiny strings of energy of 2D, these equations, shows that our universe is made up of 11 dimensions. 3D in normal space we move in, 4Th is the time, and the 7 others are the parallel dimensions you are asking about.
The mathematical details of String Theory is very promising, its a very beautiful and elegant theory.
Personally i believe that String Theory is the right theory. I hope it will be proved someday in the near future.

it is possible that they do exist, but as we are locked into the physics of our universe and parallel universes may have different physics, it may be impossible for us to observe them and thus confirm their existence.

I believe that they do. For example, spirits such as angels live on a parallel universe.

Yeah. The psychedelic experience proves that there are parallel universes. We know very little about existense.
