this car was my grandfathers, I inherited it ,I have alot of the orig. paper work , orig. purches order pink, slip and so on . the orig. purches order says he ordered a positrac rearend but dosn't say what kind. when i started working on the car and got to the rearend i had to purches parts for a dana 4/11 positrac rearend from a 1967 oldsmobile. now i've been around this car all my life and the rearend has never been changed . so i come with the question how does a 1969 chevy el camino come stock with a dana 4/11 positrac rearend from a 1967 oldsmobile and how do i prove it when general motors refers me to their heritage center and they tell me their arcives only go back to 1977?

numbers matching69 Camino 396 SS, 4-speed, power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning and AM radio that still works. The original 12 bolt rear end now has 410 posi gears. Engine was rebuilt several years and not too many miles ago, intake was changed to an Edelbrock with a Holley, and headers were added.

Here are some better options for you :

someone at the factory probably put the wrong rear end in it. you will never be able to prove it. it happened 30 years ago. and you did say it has a positrac in it now. it could also be that rear end was the same as they used in the olds and the Chevy part number was discontinued. there could be lot's of olds with that particular ear end so theres still parts available under olds numbers. good luck
