u guys are right, its not a big detail, but y did they change it, really? does it really matter? i mean, they change things that do not even make the movie shorter!! but of course they did it so we could read it easyer.

but y i really wanted to know is because when i turn 18 im going to go and get a tatoo on my left hand [now that i know that was the correct hand] that says i must not tell lies in cursif [sp?], the way its supposed to look. =] i know im crasy but it'll look GREAT! and only hp fans wud know what it meant, ppl that never saw the movie or read the book would be like "...ok?" hahaha i luv inside jokes!

You're right, but the way a hand looks when it is gripping an object would make it difficult to read "I must not tell lies" on the back of his hand on screen.

If I were you I wouldn't get the tattoo on the back of my hand, you might have work related trouble later on. I recommend you get it on the inside of your wrist instead.

Remember to put a lot of thought into your first tattoo, many people I know regret their first tattoo.

You are correct, and the same thought came to me as I watched the movie, too! However, I have long accepted the movies have to be different from the books (for the sake of making the movie logical and fit within a 3-hour time frame!) so this "change" was insignificant--the important thing is that we see what a sadistic, horrible person Umbridge is.

Yeah you're right. Well spotted! I guess they just changed it in the film.. considering they changed a LOT of thing, the matter of which hand "i must not tell lies" to appear on, did not matter much to the movie makers.

I've checked - you're definitely right - on page 240 (UK ed) it clearly says the words appeared on his right hand, whereas in the movie they appeared on his left hand. I guess the director thought he would take some creative licence!

The point was that the punishment was cruel and inflicted pain.

Does it matter which hand it was on?
