I LOVE your question. As being Native American myself, I want to be president. I mean, it is hard to be elected because so many people that Natives have all died out. And I believe that there is still a lot of racism in the U.S. I don't know how many times people have asked me if I live in a teepee or if I scalp people!! A lot of people believe that Natives aren't living in the modern world....as if we are still livin like our ancestors!! ( I still do practice my religion and my ancestors ways...but someone has to carry it on!) And since most of our families were forced on to reservations...it is hard to find our way out into the "real world". I think that Natives do have the potential to be Presidents of the United States! ^_^

Tigergrl took my answer. Charles Curtis was vice-president. I think Bill Richardson is the first person with Native American heritage to run for president. But why, I don't know. Why is it that you can count the number of non-white senators on one hand? My personal opinion is that white people have been the dominant race in this country for so long, and we have kept other races down until just recently. I think that now we as a country are ready for a president with different heritage than European. Whether or not we are ready for a female President I don't know. It is a sad thing, but this country is more sexist than racist, and we are pretty racist at that. Good question, and God Bless.

There should have been but I would think it has a lot to do with the fact that they never try to be president, and they are highly discriminated against by whites. Also, if there has been a president with Native American blood he has never said anything about it.

I hope there is and a Black one too. Anything is better than what has been in office for so many hundreds of years. We need a change and badly. It's sickening anymore.

The Native American population wasn't even allowed to vote until 1967. The greatest recorded genocide in world history was done to the Native American by Americans. I'm not Native American but I know many of them and have studied their culture and life style. I have a great respect for them and for their religion. The United States is not ready for a Native American president.

I would say a true Native American Indian is way smarter than to run for president. Try to focus on the current slate!!! A woman, a black man that does not relate to his white mother, a Mormon, and a wealth of iffy characters.

I don't think a Native American has run for president. We did have a vice president with Kaw Indian ancestry. Charles Curtis was vice president to Herbert Hoover from 1929-1933.

To the best of my knowledge one has never bothered to run. However, even if they had I don't know that they would have been elected given the past history of racism in the country. I would like to see more minorities run for high office, but I also want to see candidates of quality. We should never vote for someone no matter what race just because they are a particular race, or because that group has never held the office. We need to elevate the status of the political leadership in this country and in doing so we might also educate the people in the value of diversity.

I am half Native and do not believe that the us government has a true legal right to govern natives I can only imagine what full blooded natives think. I don't think you will see many natives running for office

Probably because they have never run....there was a first officer on Star Trek Voyager that was a Native American.

For the same reason there has never bean an aboriginal or indigenous person of full native blood.

Money, power and control by white men, tradition.

Hillary Clinton is the first real chance for a woman president. She has already served two terms whilst her husband was busy chasing female pages. :'>
