Yesterday I was feeding my fish zuccini and it was frozen so I put it in the microwave for a little bit. I fed them as usual and today some of them are on the bottom of the tank and not moving. They're kind of upside down too. Are they dead? Do I need to clean the tank so the others don't die?

Okay... so this is a little more complicated than I made it out to be. My friend and I are house-sitting at her cousins place. I wasn't there yesterday and she fed the fish. She said the zuccini was a bit frozen so she put it in the microwave for a little bit. She fed them as usual. She called me at work today freaking out 'cus she thinks she killed the fish. She said some of them are on the bottom of the tank and not moving and they're kind of upside down. Do they sound dead? Do I need to clean the tank so the others don't die? Unfortunatly I have no idea what kind of fish or any of the details about the tank. I know they're tropical fish. Help!

Good grief the nuts are coming out of the woodwork. Don't go poking your fish, I hope you know better than that.
If you have any Zucchini left in the tank, remove it and yes, a water change will never be a bad idea. It sounds like the tank may have gotten a bit polluted from the food, but that's nothing a water change won't fix.
Some of the fish sound like they are in pretty bad shape and those may not make it, but others will.

Why would anyone feed their fish Zuccini?
Yes they are dead unless they are Irredescent Sharks, in which case they may have FAINTED. Those sharks do that if anything scares them, and then revive after 30 minutes to an hour. I have know many who bought them and thought they were dead when they arrived home with them. They flushed them down the toilet. If they had gone on and placed them in the tank, and given them a little time, they have been ok. I'd say your fish are probably done in . Death by Zuccini. Sorry.

In order to give you the best advice possible please let us know the following:
1- what kind of fish
2- what size of tank
3- how long set up
4- how many fish are in there
5- what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels
6- what is the temperature in your tank
7- how often do you clean your tank

is this a joke??
in case it isnt, try to poke them, they might just be sleeping...haha
no really, take them out see if they move. if not theyre dead. and yes, letting them decay in the fish tank isnt a good idea, so take the dead ones out. i dont think you have to clean the tank since theyve only been dead for a short time, and if the other fish seem fine, then its ok.

Why people use microwave ovens is beyond me. It alters the proteins. Just plain evil.
