I mean if you look at the British Empire, Spanish Empire, Portuguese, Dutch etc they all conqered, but how come Italians never done anything like this, i mean they were the Romans right? so how come they didnt manage to get another Empire? or is it that Romans were different to Italians & the Roman mentallity just vanished and therefore Italians are another breed altogether.

The Roman Empire from a very long time ago has nothing to do with the Italians of today. The Roman Empire went down due to it's own excesses. People have started their own empires thousands of times. Some are successful and some just fade away.

Most empires are prominent just the once. It rises, it falls...it's gone. Some other area gets an empire and the same thing happens.

British Empire...toast. Spanish Empire...toast. Revolutions all around, can't call them empires once all the colonies are countries of their own.

Italians aren't all Romans--the Romans were only one group out of many who happened to conquer the Italian area and more as an empire.

They had their shot, they lost their empire (as all empires fall), and that was that.

Refer to Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill for, well, everything...but he talks about Italians and it's funny but informative.

I think you got your history wrong...
The Roman Empire is at the base for all Latin languages like Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Macedonian and even French and English..if are others I can't remember now.
The Roman Empire covered more than any other countries( more than half of Europe) about 2000 years ago...

Apart from the catholic church which is the direct successor of the roman empire they did try to establish and empire in the 30's they invaded Abyssinia and it think several other poorly armed African countries but it did not last long. Only until they pulled out of the war in 1944
