this is a good question, personally myself i switch my p.c off at the end of every day,but thats just a routine i have got used to
however many people leave thier p.c,s on for many reasons, the first and most obvious is hardware lifespan,,for example by leaving your p.c allways on this can lenghten your hard drives lifespan by 100%,hard drives dont like to be started and stopped, this is a reason why microsoft include checkdisk(chdsk) in their operating systems
also leaving your p.c on will also save wear and tear on your power supply
however by saving your hardware this way is also creating a issue of power wastage, its well known you should allways turn off electrical items when not in use
this is a thousand questions in one this topic,so i will finish by saying you should do what you think is best
there is no actual guideline set down to advise us on when and when not to switch off our p.c,s
sometimes certain computer manufacturers include guidelines in their manuals so consult your p.c,s manual for the best plan of action
i hope this has helped
good luck!

TURN IT OFF!
Have a scan at the articles below, but essentially the average American will pay between $50-80 a year just to power a computer over night.
Computers are now designed to handle 40,000 on/off cycles. This is considerably more cycles than the average user will initiate in the computer’s 5-7 year life span. Turning your computer off helps reduce heat stress and wear on the system.
The surge of power used by a CPU to boot up is far less than the energy used by the unit when left on for over 3 minutes.
Finally the cooling fans helping to cool your system, and prolong its life get dirty with use, the more you use the fans, the dirtier they get, and the less efficient they become, this in itself reduces the life of a PC more than anything.
So having your comp on overnight when you are not using it will cost you money, reduce its serviceable life, and not offer any benefits. the only reason for leaving it on would be if you are downloading big stuff.

Generally speaking, it's better for the computer to leave it on. If you turn it off it requires a huge "spike" of power to get started again, plus it ages the hard drives and other moving parts more to "spin up", which they don't do if the computer is left on.
Turning it off and on every day doesn't save very much electricity, as long as the computer is in "sleep" mode. If you're running it constantly then turning it off will save a fair amount of energy. If you have a CRT (old monitor that is not LCD) then turning that off will save a lot more power than turning off a modern PC.
If you're not going to use it for a few days, turn it off.

three reasons pop to my mind
save energy
save wear on the hard drives and heat on the cpu
reset the internal date in the clock
intel cpus didn't used to reset the clock properly unless turned off at least once per day ... they would set the 'tomorrow' flag instead and the date would show as clock date plus one. let 'er run more than 2 midnights without rebooting and the clock would be stuck on wrong date.
strange bit that i've never understood the hardware reason for.
:-)

Because you're tired and it's beddy-byes time - plus it's saving the planet and saving you a huge amount in electricity.
I use to leave my PC on - i.e. I'd just log off and nothing more and since I've been closing right down I've saved a bomb!

I would say leave it off if you really need it and I guess it really is to save energy and if you reboot your computer it fixes alot of things

leave it on unless you wont be using it for a few days, but turning it on/off every day or every few hours is not good just leave it on, if you go away or dont use it very often turn it off.
