There's been a guy I've met in 8th grade who turned out to be one of the most annoying ppl I've ever met. He has to turn every conversation into a debate and has a quick mouth, while I'm more on the talk less-do more personality side. He and I have been academic competitors from the start but he's always taken the competition so personal as to turn it into a grudge with me. I've developed a hatred for his arrogant demeanor and difficulty of personality (we really don't click at all - I can't even stand looking at him). After 10th grade, he went to a different school and I was relieved, but now I found that he is going to the same college as I am. How should I deal with this situation in college as I want to put the past behind me and move on but stupid fate or something else keeps on putting me and him on the same track. It seems like I can never get away from him. I don't want to talk with him, but I fear in college he'll continue to hold a stupid grade school grudge.

GeeGee, there are about 13000 ppl at the college, so fortunately I don't think it is too small.

Well, even if it's a small college, you should be able to avoid him with no problem. There are so many classes and scheduling options that you could go thru 4 yrs and never bump into the same people twice! If you see him on campus, be cordial but distant, to discourage any lingering competive arrogance, You may be pleasantly suprised- he may have matured into a more pleasant personality. Good luck in college!

This person really got under your skin. In case you run into him again in college, why don't you tell him exactly the same as you have posted here. Let him know what you think and feel and tell him to just leave you alone in future. If he doesn't, get out of his way if he approaches you.

But I have the feeling that you can't let go either, for what ever reason. Maybe you want to continue that competition. But if it bothers you so much that he reacts to the competition, you should just ignore that person and don't think about him any more.

This girl sounds incredibly immature, insecure and jealous of you. Sounds like you are one up on her since you are trying to avoid conflict. You need to demand respect and if this girl can't do that, then you need to tell your friend that. Avoid her and ignore her rants when you can't avoid her and if she starts to get physical or harasses you, contact the police or your school and file a formal complaint.

Get as many friends as you can as quickly as possible... It always works... He tries to pull something, you have about 20 people to back you up... Power in numbers... He'll never bother you again...
