if you buy like a one carat diamond ring in a regular store it would cost lets say 5,000 and then in tiffanys it would cost like 10,000 for the same carat so whats the difference

You're paying a premium for the name attached to the product. That's why designer things (handbags, clothing, etc.) costs more than generic or commonplace.

Ex:
1) A Lexus is pretty much the same car as a Camry, even manufactured by the same factories, but you pay a lot more for a Lexus.
2) A cotton t-shirt from Calvin Klein costs a lot more than a pack of 6 cotton t-shirts from Wal-Mart.

1) I would suggest a smaller stone with good clarity and fair color ... maybe even a multiple stone ring; like 1/3 carat in the center and maybe 2 ten pointers on each side ... or a 1/4 carat with pave surrounding it if she likes pave (I personally don't, but I have a friend who loves it and thinks it is very feminine) 2) it is the combination of the 4 C's that Impacts the price ... you can get a small nice stone or a big not so nice stone for around the same price ... I think the big thing is what do YOU care about and what can you sacrifice for now ... can you give a little on the cut and size to get a stone that has better color (ie, not E/F, but not noticeably colored either) and good clarity? the main thing I have seen on ebay that destroys the value and is a cheap diamond is being an imperfect diamond ... this is when the clarity drastically affects the visual appeal and structural integrity of the stone ... 3) Look at the seller's feedback and presentation ... make sure they have over 1000 feedbacks and are 99% positive or better ... be sure to read the good feedback, too ... sometimes things are hidden ... pay close attention to the pictures - make sure they are the exact item (close up and clear) and not stock photos ... you probably don't want to trust clarity of I-1 or less ... beware the SI3 rating ... there may be no carbon, but I have seen a few of these ratings that have tons of feathers ... I do a lot of buying and some selling of diamonds and jewelry on ebay ... I would be happy to hook you up with some of my search strings and recommended sellers ...

you can't compare it like, that a carat is just the size.to compare diamonds, you must compare color and brightness there are numbers and letters that describe them, also very important is the flaws, all stones have some flaws, when you have all that information, you then can compare prices

the quality of the diamond and then the name,(when buying diamond anything you should ask for conflict free diamonds) everything is the same as long as it has a name on it you will have to pay big bucks

well first things first if you are going to Tiffanys you dont need to ask the price you just buy it. So if you are asking you should not be there

Ahhhhhhhh, all diamonds are not the same quality.
Many have invisable defects to the naked eye.

One giant difference: It came from Tiffany's.

It doesn't matter where it came from, people always look at the brand.
