Great...just had to give them new idea's...we may never hear the end of it....besides, acknowledging cold climate conditions might go against their whole global warming scheme...

Each state has their own emergency evaculation plan, some are good, some suck. I live on Long Island. If there was a major hurricane, it has already been stated on local news that we are not prepared. Very reassuring. The further up north you get, however, the more prepared they are, since 9 out of the 12 months they are dealing with snow. Here on the island, if there is drizzle, the island comes to a stand still.

I live in Upstate NY (north of Albany)....we don't get as much snow as BUFFALO which got over 100 INCHES in one storm 2 years ago....what happens up here when bad weather hits is we all pull together....emergency vehicles and snow plows were sent from all over the state to help dig Buffalo out. A few years back when Plattsburgh got hit with a HUGE ice storm, electric company employees from as far as Eastern LONG ISLAND and all points north and west and east came in DROVES to get the area cleaned up and running again...shelters are immediately set up and people just KNOW to help their neighbors and neighborhoods in times of disaster....Look at what happened after 9/11---all the thousands of NY residents who volunteered their time from ALL OVER The state and some came from surrounding states as well...to help in any way they could.... THAT'S why the North manages better when adversity strikes... we work TOGETHER!!!

Most people are not concerned that the Federal government did not have an evacuation plan . . . however, I would venture that most people are a bit concerned about the Federal follow-up to the storm (Katrina). It is not a reasonable comparison - a short lived snow storm to the greatest natural disaster in modern American history.

Because on any given winter night it is already cold as $h!t here in CT so we are prepared every winter to be cold have our pipes and power lines freeze and bust our @$$ while walking down the driveway to shovel. We don't look for momma's tit every time something bad happens. We just plan accordingly.

Because the folks up north have insurance, and brains and strength of character..they are not looking for a free ride or handout or to put blame on others

Only the left wing liberal loonies who occupy New Orleans bellyache about federal help. Everyone else takes care of their own problems: Florida and Mississippi are the best examples.
