Well, I'm not going to recommend any "stupid" books, since they aren't really beneficial for high school, per se.

This http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#web is a great site. Look particularly at the Harvard list. These are true classics that everyone should read - probably by the time they've graduated college. (I have not read even half, but I was a Physics major, and scifi and fantasy were my entertainment reading).

I hope this helps.

Read

To Kill A Mockingbird- You'll probably have to read it in high school. Then you'll know the basic story and the paper will be a piece of cake.

Shakespeare like Romeo and Juliet- Same as above

Edgar Allen Poe- Same

War and Peace- I've never read it and although it looks boring, your teachers will be impressed.

The Bible front to back- Impressive and you can brag :)

Be yourself in high school and you'll do fine.

Good luck!

For whom the Bell Tolls is superb. Also, go for the old bard Shakespeare, you can't go wrong reading his stuff. And despite his depressing and frightening works, Edgar Allen Poe's stuff is fantastic for those last minute English papers!

I loved the Red Wall series and also Where The Red Fern Grows. The Narnia Chronicles were great then as well. (this was all before high school).
