Cute article, but it does miss an important point. General Petraus can make all the progress in the world, al Maliki can stop scaring hell out of the Sunnis, and we can still lose the war.
I'm old enough to remember 1968. US forces had been trying for years to provoke an out-and-out conventional fight. They got one, and by mid-February the Viet Cong had been crushed. The civil war in South Vietnam was over, the government and the US having won decisively. The NVA were so bloodied that they were unable to mount any attack of more than battalion level for months. And yet Walter Cronkite, the experts at the New York Times, and others declared a loss, and so it became. Despite the loss of their Viet Cong allies, the NVA were able to win that one because of (mis)perceptions in the US, and it's quite likely that may happen here as well.

confident ,the enemy has lost the Iraq conflict. The coalition carried out victory in checklist time. The coalition has each and every ought to be there now.Tribal conflict maintains and could be contaminated while occupying forces withdraw. The coalition ought to stay and be certain that democracy is embedded into the attitude of the Iraqi human beings. Iran maintains to finance arm and prepare insurgents interior of Iraq .The coalition ought to stay to be certain that Iran is not any longer a risk to Iraq and that the tide of fundamentalism is stemmed. As a general rule of thumb, I don't trust clearly biased editorial writing. Militarily, the conflict in Iraq has taken an upward trend; attacks are the lowest they've been, and the Iraqi soldiers are becoming effective. Politically, it's still anyone's game.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is part of the Global War on Terrorism. We can only win battles when on missions. The War itself will continue for decades and we might not win the War but we will create conditions where the Terrorists we are after will be less acceptable to the people who used to support them. A war isn't supposed to be prolonged we will win if we use our Super Strength Bombs I don't know why Bush don't want to use them. Casualties are imminent we need to bomb, then fix it up and they will accept us rather than the extremists.
