Yes, if she presses charges. Any time a couple is in a committed relationship, whether they are living together or not, if they batter each other, it is domestic violence. My concern is that your friend will return to this cretin. In my state, the state presses charges as well so even if the partner changes his/her mind, the state has a case against the perp. If your friend and her ex have not been seeing each other for an extended period of time, she can get a restraining order against him as well. He does not have to be caught or sign anything for this to be done.
Suggest to your friend that she get counseling because she is likely to choose another jerk who will batter her.

It depends on the state, but he SHOULD have a warrant. Ex BF or not, it is an assault
Please have her call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE

Definately. She is at one disadvantage that they do not consider it domestic violence if they are not married. They consider it battery, and it IS a lesser charge..

Lily...that may be true about committed relationships on a case by case basis, but it is not here. If you are not married, you are treated the same way friends...or strangers for that matter...would be.

Yes. Encourage her to do that now while her scars are still fresh. Take pictures of her for documentation. She should also get a restraining order so he can't come around and sweet talk her into going back for more abuse.

YES! If they are looking for him he probably already has a warrant.
