Both the US and the USSR claimed the nuclear technology as part of their "war loot". Both the US and the USSR rushed into Germany and hunted down the scientists and the technology. We brought many of their scientists over here. USSR did the same. We both stole it.

A grip load of German scientists who did most of the experimenting for Hitler offered their knowledge and services to the United States and the Soviet Union. They were the brains behind most of what we use in NASA and what we have down in those silos.

The Germans trapped in the East worked under Stalin while the ones in the West worked under Truman. They were impressive engineers; first jet-powered fighter (to see combat at least, I heard the Brits may have but controversial), first attack rocket, first rocket-powered aircraft, etc..etc...

they were working on nuclar tech when the usa bombed japan. Knowing something is a poisablity and observing it's effects can rush others working on the same thing, so sortly after WWII the ussr had invented nuclar wepons, and was in a race to try to havbe the most weapons

Some they invented. Some they got from the Germans after WWII. Some they stole from the US and Britain.

Legend has it that Stalin's spies sent him timelier reports on the project than Truman received through channels. ;)
