I gave birth to my daughter 4 weeks ago. I am still bleeding and it is very heavy bleeding. I went to the bathroom and there was a blood clot about the size of a penny. Is this something to be concerned about????

I had bleeding for almost 8 weeks after I gave birth. Dime and penny sized clots are normal. I had a few golf ball sized clots (sorry if TMI) but it slowed and eventually stopped. Just continue to monitor the flow and instead of wiping, try using a squeeze bottle of warm water to clean yourself, that way you're gentler to your vaginal area. Rest as much as possible and elevate your feet. If in doubt, call your OB.

Nope Normal! You will bleed until roughly 6 weeks. Any sooner and you are lucky. You will be fine. If you have a clot the size of a lemon or golf ball, thats when you need to call.

Massage your abdomen gently to get more of the discharge out. It will help reduce the amount of bleeding too.
Good Luck and congrats on your new arrival!

It's no fun, but I was the same way. It took about 6 weeks for the bleeding to stop. As long as you don't have blood clots the size of a lemon, foul smell, or new bright red blood, everything's working fine.

No, this isn't something to be concerned about. You should bleed for about 6 weeks and for several months after that your periods may still not be quite right.

If you start passing LARGE blood clots (like bigger than what you passed during a regular pre-pregnancy menstrual cycle) call your doctor. If it's just one small clot, don't be alarmed.

Well after I gave birth I had lots of stuff come out of me. I was in the shower and I had clots falling out of me left and right and the 1st time I was at the hospital (my first shower after labor) and I showed the nurse she said it was normal. I would ask your Doctor but I too bled FOREVER after I gave birth, I think I was still bleeding at my 6 week check up not heavy but still bleeding, ask your Doc though.

its normal to have bleeding afterward and usually last about 6 weeks and you will have some clots in there. Call the OB if you are really concerned.

I bled for 6 weeks. The nurse told me to pay attention in case I bled through a pad in an hour because that could mean hemorrhaging. Blood clots are normal.

i bled for 3 months after my 1st(they couldn't do my 6wk exam becuz it was too heavy flow). yes it was my 1st and i was young. my other two i was wearing pads untill about 2 months later. Go if the blood clots git any bigger than a grape. you should have a check up coming soon. if it starts to git worse or you expirence cramping, go in. better to be safe than sorry. you need focus taking care and bonding w/ baby and you can't do that if you don't feel well. Congrats on the baby!!

My daughter is 2 months old, and I didn't stop bleeding until 7 weeks out. At times it was just spotting, and at other times it was extremely heavy.
