Is it because they are afraid Nancy Pelosi will have to resign? She hired undocumented workers for her business while she was using her government position to keep undocumented workers from being deported. Guess Democrats know the term "obstruction of justice".

"What they did was wash the outside of the cup, but the inside of the cup is still filthy," railed [Republican] Coburn, who said the legislation would present the appearance of reform while still leaving open loopholes. "If you want to fix what's wrong in Congress, you have to make the earmarking process completely transparent. We had a great strong bill in January and they gutted it."

Why should they reform anything when "declaring to the populous" that have have done so will suffice? The sheep will see the cosmetic changes made to the outside, and they choose to beleive the lies, but the inside remains rotted to the core. Here are the changes Coburn is so (rightly) enraged about:

The bill was changed to make earmark disclosure voluntary rather than mandatory.
The requirement of 67 Senate votes to suspend the earmark disclosure rule was changed to 40 votes — LESS than a majority.
The language prohibiting a member or staff from promoting earmarks they would personally benefit from was completely eviscerated.
So was the language prohibiting a member from trading votes for earmarks.
The requirement that earmarks be put on the Internet 48 hours after their inclusion in legislation was changed to "as soon as practical."
The non-partisan Senate parliamentarian was replaced by the majority leader as the referee determining whether earmark disclosure requirements are met.
The bill also weakened other elements of disclosure and transparency.

And for all this Speaker Pelosi declared this "monumentous"? How so, Ms Speaker? The biggest farce ever?

before a few extra greedy pols got caught eg. Murtha in ABSCAM, barney frank and the Male hookers, Torricelli, Traficant etc, - with thyeir hands in the cookie jar or the honey pot- like Gary Hart - it Capitol hill was the best place in the world for graft and corruption and there was no secret about it in DC money , girls Boys if you swing that way, they all where thrown around like dust in the wind by lobbists and others seeking influence, and it was bipartisan. Read Dick Morris book-->"Outrage"
He names names (both Dems& REPs) and reveals the corruption, fraud and depths of the legislators deceit.
Congress is a ticket for a elitist life of free travel, zillions in kickbacks, perks, prestige, and the ability to become a millionaire + .
..We should ALL get a job with such perks... including a 3 day work week (so we can fly somewhere to raise $$ for our re-election war chest, or enjoy a lobbyist or "foundation for xx" funded event in hawaii/london/ ...) I would like all the benefits, perks, and cash in my account especially if I only "worked" 100-110 days a year...
OUR legislators are crooks that can and do craft rules that they routinely ignore because ....they believe they are entitled ..laws apply to the masses that need to be massaged, managed and bilked.
In addition to term limits, we need to clean house (and senate).

They had to cut some stuff in order to get the few republicans that voted for it to sign off.
Another bill passed by the do-nothing democratic congress.

I would have to look at the bill first. I feel like they did the same thing that Republicans would, view the attachments as unnecessary.

Ethics have no place in Congress, they'd all feel guilty all the time.

They gutted it because it will effect Democrats.

So long as they don't label themselves unethical they can continue to do their unethical behavior.
