without installing extra software such as firewalls ect...

one trick we use to do is edit your host file. Do a search for the file "hosts" (should be in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ ) add the following line to the end using whatever the website name is. 127.0.0.1 will tell the PC to point to itself, and just timeout. Remeber to save it. you may have to clear your history to

127.0.0.1 website.com

if you want to be funny you can get the IP address to something else such kidsafety.com or something and they will end up there instead

You'll need to edit a file.

Go to WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

Inside you'll find a file named "hosts", no extension (.dat, .ini, anything), just "hosts"

right-click it and select "open with >> Notepad"

You will see a lot of text at the beginning starting with #. At the end you'll find this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Here you must to add the sites you would like to block, remember to press the tab key [tab] to make the space between the address and site. ie.

127.0.0.1 [tab] [tab] localhost
127.0.0.1 [tab] [tab] blockedsite.com
127.0.0.1 [tab] [tab] www.blockedsite.com

Then save and exit and refresh the data:

Start ->Run-> 'nbtstat -RR' (without the ' )

And so on. what you are doing is to configure a file (hosts) which tells the computer which IP (Internet Address) access access if someone request certain page. This is the first file your computer looks when someone tries to access a page.

The address 127.0.0.1 it's yourself, so it will send an error (the page can't be found)

and the command nbtstat -RR refreshes this data

Your child should not be able to get to the restricted sites if you blocked them and created a password to change the settings. Create a difficult password otherwise get rid of the Internet for a while and that should teach your child not to mess with the boss.

Third party software, or tell them that if they take the site off the list and go there again, they'll be in college before they can get near the computer again.
