I posted an item for sale on the net. A buyer agreed to the price, but wanted to use Alertpay. He says it's like paypal. So I signed up to Alertpay. 3 days later Alertpay sends me a email saying that a money order from the buyer has been approved, and that it is safe to send the item. However, the money order will not be credited to my account until I give them the shipment tracking number within 24 hrs. Can I trust Alertpay??

It appears to be legit...HOWEVER....I found the inserted text below on a forum that I follow

Read the following and follow the first link. If I were you, I would drop AlertPay and if this person wants to buy whatever it is you're selling, he'll send you a money order or go through paypal

Saw this when I Googled for alertpay+scam:

One reply in that topic says that they appear to work with
scammers, while a few others say it is a pain in the a** to
use. Disregard the positive comments others have made about
it in the topic; they may be shills who work for the company.

Also, if the seller on Craigslist is offering you extra for
shipping, beware! Then it is almost certainly a scam.

I would disregard the offer in question based on what I've
found out about AlertPay.

There's also this topic, posted to the Spam, Scam and
Phish Busters forum: »Re: this looks like a scam

Read about Alertpay here:

This one is "interesting":

I'd try doing some more research before making a definitive decision.

I never heard of it - insist on paypal or a check and wait at least a week after depositing check to make sure it clears. You're the seller - you can dictate what type of payments you want to accept - make sure you identify them all when you list an auction

Here's a discussion as to whether it's a scam or not.

It says some people have used it with success but that it has slow service.
