It's a combination of 2 things.
First, it's New York. We all know what kind of people New Yorkers are, and what kind of fans they are. They expect perfection out of everybody. Their also extremely spoiled from so many years of winning and Steinbrenners endless money supply which has bought a lot of success and championships.
Second, he has brought some of it upon himself by demanding a $28 million dollar salary to play just 1 season. A season by the way, in which he's over 40 and didn't even play from the beginning. For that type of money, he should've made sure he would be effective and live up to the standards he has set for himself and the Yankees. Although the fans are partly wrong for their actions towards a guy who did so much for them in bringing a few World Series to New York, and for offering to come back and try to help them again, the fans are also partly right because, like I said, he was the 1 who came back with that $28 million dollar demand. For that money, his overall numbers are just unacceptable.

I wouldn't call Roger Clemens your ace. I think he is better then average at this point of his career, yet giving up all those runs in the top of the second makes the fans feel uneasy. The NY fans know they can't squander many games because Boston is doing just enough to win it's games. So with this in mind...and Yankee fans expecting so much from a 40+ year old pitcher...they WIll BOO when getting pummeled by a team that really isn't very good in the WhiteSox.

You obviously don't watch many Giants games, because the fans DO boo Barry Zito. If their high-paid pitcher isn't peforming well, the fans will boo, regardless of his status in baseball history

Roger Clemens gave up 8 runs in 1.2 innings against the White Sox today. But 3 of them were earned, since Robinson Cano made the error that effected the second inning.

Barry Zito also doesn't set his price as high as Clemens price. Oh and I'm not sure I would call Clemens the Ace. Clemens sets HIS price and HIS terms. He BETTER win or he WILL BE BOOED and he deserves it.

He stunk it up. He gave up 8 runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. For a guy we're paying a prorated 27 million dollar salary, he should pitch much better.
Besides, he has no loyalty; he is a pure mercenary. He deserves to be booed when he doesn't perform.

Wow, how's Proctor looking now? Farnsworth gave up two homers...
Clemen's deserves to be booed. He is getting paid a LOT of money to pitch and has chosen to put himself on a pedestal, so he deserves everything he gets when he sucks.

I don't know but that doesn't sound like a real fan! Trust me..I'm a Rangers fan. Losing isn't new to us but I would NEVER boo one of my players.
Didn't he give up 8 runs? I think our announcer mentioned that..

They were disappointed that he gave up 8 runs and 9 hits in the second inning against the White Sox, wouldn't you agree? For many fans it is "what have you done for me lately" and not how good he has been during his career. If it was about his career they would be cheering.
