If you can't do any, then you should probably do some upper body strength training. Pushups are great in that they work the triceps, back, chest, and shoulders, but you might need to do some light weight work before you can do an actual pushup.

One thing I would suggest is to not give up on it - a lot of women have trouble with them initially, then give up because they think they'll look bad. But once you get some strength and get the technique down, you'll be amazed how quickly you become good at it.

Here are a few steps to get started.

1. You can start with wall push ups. Stand far enough away from the wall that you are just out of reach with your arms and hands fully extended. Then just lean into the wall and start doing wall push ups (Vertical pushups).

2. Start doing pushups on the ground by starting on your knees.

3. Also go to the push up position (on your toes) and just hold it there. That will help build up the arm strength too. Your arms will get tired and you will have to push just to hold yourself there. That push is using the same muscles you would for the pushups. – This is my personal favorite.

4. When you are going down for the push up go as slow as possible. The control gains strength.

5. Use weights or dumbbells for a bench press (laying on your back and lifting the weights straight into the air). This is best done with a weight bench so you have full range of your arms.
