I am hoping to buy a next-gen console but don't know if it will be worth it if i don't have an hd tv yet. If they still look better than a ps2 is it a very noticeable change. And which next-gen looks better even without an hd-tv?

Depends on which system you plan on purchasing. First of all, the Wii doesn't have any form of HD so it won't matter. Secondly, if you plan on purchasing a Xbox 360 or PS3, it will look better because the graphics processing units in both systems are far superiour to that of any of the previous generation consoles.

It is worth it. HDTVs are coming down in price (slowly) so by the time you have saved up enough money again after the purchase of your next gen console they will be cheaper and most likely better TV's out. While the improvement isnt as drastic without a HDTV it is still an improvement over the last gen consoles. But like they said above, the Wii has no HD mode so while it looks nice on a HDTV, there is no drastic improvement.

Yes it is, for one the detail on most next-gen games are greater without the tv...so no need for a new tv,two, the picture quality on a HD TV is really only noticeable as the size and definition of the TV goes up, if you are just looking at the screen while you are playing the game instead of actually playing thats you...so subliminally you may notice it, but otherwise no , other than that, i say go for it

I've got a PS3 and a none HD tv. It is a noticeable improvement, looks fantastic, and no problems. (i heard an early game for the 360 had difficult to read text for non-HD tvs, but i've not heard of any since and not had any probs myself.)
You do find yourself yearning for one sometimes, though.
