Does anybody else think that Don Cherry should just tell Gary Bettman to take a hike, then replace him as commish?

I know he doesn't have the power to or the authority to kick Bettman out, I'm sorry to imply that.... But SOMEBODY has to step up and get rid of the cancer that is G.B. Grapes is my vote.

Cherry is too much a Maverick to be big boss. He'd have no one to rebel against he would be miserable.

I am not sure you are really thinking about what you asked. I have a lot of respect for Don Cherry and most of his opinions about what is wrong with hockey. However because of his strong belief that he is right, he would probably not work well with a Board of Governors.

However, if he were hired and allowed full control of league operations without interference from the Board of Governors, I am sure he would be good for the game in the long run. But at his age would he be willing to give up a very lucrative position as a TV analyst to take on a job that has so many detractors. Not sure this would be a good move for Mr. Cherry.

If you're asking whether Cherry should be the next commissioner, then no. HECK no.

He's nice enough as loud, opinionated entertainment, but has nowhere near the credentials or vision needed to help the sport.

I'd go so far as to say that Bettman wallowing in ineptitude and constant missteps is still a better option than Cherry could ever be.

Don Cherry, although know for his brilliance regarding hockey, may be a poor choice for commissioner. He would argue with everybody, and piss everybody off even more than he does now. His one-way opinions of things would cloud his ability to fairly decide on many of the complicated matters that face the league today. While I don't like Gary Bettman AT ALL, Don Cherry would be a suitable interim commissioner, but for the long run, I'd like to see someone else. Who? I don't know, but you pose a very interesting query.
But one thing is for sure, we do need to figure out a way to keep Grapes on the air if for nothing more than his suits!

Since when does Grapes have the right to fire Bettman? If he had that right don't you think Bettman would already be yesterday's news? Those two can't stand each other. In fact Bettman is certain Cherry is the reason most Canadian fans hate his sorry @ss.

I wouldn't mind if he told Bettman to take a hike(not that that would do any good since he has NO Authority) BUT please don't make him Commissioner. The NHL is having enough problems without someone like that running the league. Sure Bettman is bad, but he doesn't run out the players from countries other then Canada.

that's a damn fine idea! i hate bettman as much as the rest of you all do! i think the fruit in the suit would be an amazing commish. he knows everything about the game. he supports fighting. i am sure he would help out the NHL. i would give the job to cherry in a heartbeat!!

I'm sure at one point in Bettmans years as commish, he has! I love Cherry.

That would be like George Bush telling the Pope off...

Realistically, Cherry has no power, first off, other than influence caused by his charisma...which is strong, no doubt.

If Cherry were running the show, though, I doubt there would be any franchises much further south than St. Louis.

Cherry already tells everyone in hockey what they should do, so he'd certainly consider the commissioner's job a demotion.
